Advantages: Wide range of circuits, classic gameplay

TOCA 2 is the second edition of the long-running Touring Car gaming franchise. Released in 1999, the game makes up for expectedly dated graphics with excellent and addictive gameplay.

The core mode of the game is the Championship mode, which emulates the British Touring Car Championship during the 'SuperTourer' era. More than half a dozen teams are available, though the performance differences between the cars are minimal. This features three different difficultly levels, each progressive level reducing the penalty to the AI cars and lengthening the races and the overall season.

My favourite feature is the Support Car Championships, which feature a range of different cars, from Formula Ford to Jaguar supercars, from three-wheeled Scorpions to Fiestas.

Graphically the game has indeed dated, with the amazingly blurry rear-view mirror a proud tribute to the limitations of nineties technology. However, the graphics are perfectly clear and usable, and scale well to the higher resolutions of today's monitors.

Summary: Possibly the best of the TOCA series
