Advantages: Easy to play, different ways of controlling the plane for different skill levels
Disadvantages: Not that realistic, first few levels drag on
Tom Clancy's Hawx is the newest edition to the Tom Clancy series, and is a combat flight simulator. The game can be played single player (through a campaign), co-op campaigns or versus mode (dogfights).
The control system for this game is very usable and caters for users of different skill levels. When you first start the game, you start in "assistance on mode". This basically means you have the camera on your plane. You have a lot less control of your plane, for turning and quick maneuvers. The positives of this mode, is that your plane is very easy to control and you cannot stall. Whilst in assistance off mode, by pressing a button you can follow a recommended flight path to avoid missiles, attack enemys or destroy ground targets that would be otherwise very difficult to hit.
As you progess through the game, you eventually unlock "assistance off" mode. This shows a view of your plane from a further distance and allows you to have full control of it. You know can break as much as you want without limit, do fast turns to avoid missiles. You can also stall, adding even more realism to the game.
Even with all these features, it still isn't as realstic as the true fight simulators, but it is very fun. As you play through the game, you unlock more planes and weapon packs for the planes. Any plane can be used for any mission or for online play.
The single player campaign is not very long but is enjoyable. One annoying fact is that you do not unlock assistance off until a few levels into the game.
I enjoyed this game, and would recommend it to a casual gamer who just wants to blow up some airplanes and tanks in a fighter jet!
Summary: A nice easy game to play. Recommended
