Tomb Raider Chronicles, like you don't know, is the fifth in a series of titles that started off as a genuinely innovative idea, developed into a phenomenon, and is currently about as fashionable as scabies. It's slightly unfair really - the TR series have been good (if quite often overly difficult) games that are loved by the fans and derided by everyone else, simply because game heroine Lara Croft has been pimped like some tu'penny jezebel ever since some bright spark noticed that she had breasts. Lara captured the pop culture zeitgeist somewhere between the release of the first and second Tomb Raider game - for a while she was everywhere. ... Read the complete review

So this is Christmas, and what have you got? Another FIFA game and another Tomb Raider game, obviously. Waaaaid-a-minute - wasn't the lovely Lara missing, presumed dead at the end of the most recent game, the aptly titled The Last Revelation? She certainly was, but that was never going to stop Eidos from claiming it's Christmas bonus, and here she is again in all her glory. So has she risen from the dead in a Christ-like fashion? Or emerged from the shower having forgotten the previous year, Bobby Ewing style? Not quite, as this is something of a history lesson, recounting not one but four of Lara's previous adventures. But don't worry, ... Read the complete review

Heavy drops of freezing rain fall from a slate-grey sky, like the tears of the gods. Blck figures, their faces as sombre as the weather, slowly filter past the wrought iron gates of Croft Manor. No-one talks, for this is not a time for idle chatter; it is a time for mourning. The dark procession filters through the Manor grounds and eventually reaches a polished stone statue: a memorial to their dearly beloved colleague and friend, Lara Croft – missing, presumed dead…. And so begins Tomb Raider 5 – or to give the game its proper title, Tomb Raider Chronicles. As fans of the hysterically popular series will already be aware, Lara Croft has a ... Anyone who has completed tomb Raider: The last revelation or who has seen the introduction to Tomb raider Chronicles must not be fooled. If you think having a pyramid dropped on her head would stop Ms Croft then i believe you are gravely mistaken, she is made of sterner stuff! for those of you who don't know what i'm talking about let me fill you: Following the events of Tomb Raider: the last Revelation Lara Croft is buried alive under a pyramid and Tomb Raider: Chronicles opens with a news broadcast talking of the death of lara croft and Dr Verner Von Croy who is digging in Egypt with the hopes of finding her alive (if i could underline this ... As the Fifth instalment of the Tomb Raider series I expected a lot better. The levels though play like the early tomb raider Chronicles that is finished with the death of Lara Croft. At times I felt that maybe it was looking back at Lara’s life. Normally there are loads of new moves, vehicles and weapons but all we have play with in this one is a grappling hook and Lara gets to walk a tightrope. There are no new Vehicles at all and the game play has not moved forward. Fortunately we still have the excellent video footage, which holds the weak story together with fifty full video interludes. The normal glitches are still there as well when you ... Read the complete review
