Having played a couple of the Tony Hawk games I was beginning to think that more of the same couldn't possibly be entertaining. It turns out I was wrong.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 turned out to be my favourite Tony Hawk game so far. It's quite easy to get into and the areas around which you perform tricks seem much more detailed than in previous games. There are nine areas each with sixteen goals in career mode. The difficulty goes higher than TH3. The career mode has been improved with the removal of the time limit to find goals so you're now free to explore the areas. It's a combination of the old career and free skate modes.
The controls are roughly the same which is fine as they weren't in need of improvement. The lasting appeal of the game is quite substantial as due to the size of the levels there is plenty to explore. The levels/areas are now wider, longer, higher than ever before.
Online multiplayer has been improved with a larger capacity, a team mode and more modes of play.
Overall the gameplay is great, it's the best TH game so far. The sound is good, the areas are vast, the graphics could be better but you won't mind. It's certainly worth a look, even if you were beginning to get tired of the TH games.
