Total Annihilation 2 - Kingdoms (PC)

Description: Developed by Cavedog Entertainment and published by GT Interactive. A fantasy real-time strategy game.

Newest Review: ... good or bad. So far so good. It seems to get even better. The entire 'adventure' as the standard single player campaign is ... more

... called, covers 52 levels. This really sounds like a lot, but once you play them, you will soon find out that some only consist of traversing the larger part of the map, being chased by a few bad guys, or having to fence off enemies, whereby your troops are already perfectly aligned for the defence. This means, that some levels actually are shorter than the cut-scene and loadingtime for that level, and they seem to be included only for the sake of the storyline. Also, the storyline tells different parts of an ongoing...more

Premium Review Total Annihilation 2 - Kingdoms (PC): Totally amazing (343 words)

This game is brilliant, I cannot see why all the other reviewers hate it so much, 4 unique races, 52 missions, what is so wrong with that? I love this game, It has some of the best gameplay of ANY game I have played! The graphics may not be brilliant, but when you start playing this you don't wasnt to put it down, the history that goes behind this game is cool too. I think that if you dont have this game and are even remotely interested in RTS get it! The basic premise is that two of a mage king's children are following the laws about magic that he has set down and two aren't. the Mage king dissapears and all hell breaks loose! One of the evil ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review T A Kingdoms (265 words)

This follow up to the fantastic Total Annihilation seems like a good idea, at first. A real-time-strategy game that is a bit different, similar to age of empires, but with the emphasis set firmly on fighting (the best bit). However, unfortunately first impressions don't last. Yes the graphics are good, with good animation of the units, but the games falls short in most other areas. As in the original, there are two single player options, campaign mode or a skirmish (similar to a multiplayer battle). The skirmish was the part I enjoyed most in T A, but in Kingdoms it is very difficult to win and quite uninspiring, particularly with the limited ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Total Annihilation 2 - Kingdoms (PC): Attack vs. Defence? (170 words)

I must say that I thought the original was a great game, but this was, shall we say, not. The idea is good, and of course why should the creators not try to make money off of the original, everyone else does. I found this game at first, as good as the original, I began to build up my army and defences. I was doing well...I thought anyway. As the game went on I realised that the computer opponents were attacking regularly, and getting absolutely nowhere. My defences were far superior. I thought this was great, and so sat bacak and built up my army as they continued to die outside my base. Then it came to my attack. I attacked with my entire army, and lost ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Warcraft clone with bells on (862 words)

Every now and then, I pick up a few games at the bargain bin at the local shops. This usually is a good way of seeing what I missed last year(s), and whether I should regret that or not. Usually, I get those games for about 5-10 Euro, which means you can pick up quite a few of them, before you reach the price of a main-street top game like Black & White or Sacrifice. (Which by the way I also bought, and enjoyed very much). This time, I found two titles, that rang a bell from my memory. One is a version of Dragon's Lair (together with Space Ace and DL II), which I will probably write an op on later on, and the TA: Kingdoms. I heard and read about this ...  Read the complete review

Total Annihilation 2 - Kingdoms (PC): Not Bad (297 words)
by - written on 07/12/00
Rating:

Total Annihilation rewrote the rules for the RTS genre. Before it, lack of inspiration reigned, with each game seeking to be exactly the same as the previous release. After the seismological biff-up of it's release, everyone rushed out to, er, copy it. But at least they were copying something good. (And you'll notice it isn't based on a book. Hurrah.) But this is the sequel, and, with dispiriting predictabiliity, it doesn't cut it. Based on a tweaked version of the original's engine, Kingdoms ignores all of the tank-based antics and steps back in time to that venerably vague land of Medieval and Magic. Mmm, yes. The thing is, if you ...  Read the complete review

One of the best original RTS, Can play online Poor AI, getting old

* Simple to set up and play, very funny, incredible customisation options if interested * Very addictive and the worm's constant bickering, funny voices, explosions and the laughter of the human players can be annoying for others in the room trying to watch the telly

Replayability, Addictive, Perfect combination of Management and Turn-Based Strategy. Out-dated graphics, may crash now and again, possible frustration

Tries some new things, interesting storyline Not particularly innovative.

Incredible detail, plenty of micro management and the simple pleasure of watching life flow. Paitence is required when waiting for things to be built, and things can get overwhelming.

Intuitive with incredible depth Current bugs
