Advantages: It's free!!
Disadvantages: None really.
TrackMania Nations Forever (TMNF) is a free racing game available as a 100% free download from its developer Nadeo. The download is around 7-800 MB, so not too much if you have a fast Internet connection. You can find it by searching for the title, or like I did by finding it on Steam.
In order to play the game you need to create a free account for yourself, this allows for you to login from anywhere and compare your rankings with other players from around the world.
There are three different game modes - Solo, Online, and Party. Solo allows for you to play through the tracks built into the game, around 65 built in. Each track is based upon a time trial, and the faster you go the better your score (medal). Online allows for you to play against players from all over the world, and party allows for you to create your own "private party" and play against people who you know.
The selection of cars goes as far as different liveries depending on the country which you are from - not much in terms of customisation, but its free!
There are plenty of tracks built in to play on & work through, but once you get bored of these there are always plenty more to chose from, and in addition to this there is a track editor, allowing for you to create & share your own.
Initially there seems relatively little purpose in creating an account, but upon winning medals it will then show your ranking within the world/country, and even down to region.
The graphics are reasonably good, even on a pretty old computer, so it isn't too demanding.
Overall I'd say this is a pretty good game, especially considering it's free. Definitely nothing compared to others such as Need for Speed, but they are pretty expensive in comparison!
Summary: Try it, pretty good!
