Train Simulator is a game released in 2002 by Microsoft for PC which enables the player to take control of his/her favourite trains. Much detail has been put into the control of the trains as small tasks such as the rising and retraction of the pantograph. It has many different scenarios and also includes themed rides, for example in one particular "mission" you are required to transport the a member of the royal family to Innsbruck, and in another you are pushed to keep the tight schedule of the Japanese Commuter line. Fulfill all those childhood train driving dreams and upgrade yourself from that old Hornby Trainset!!! The game is very graphics intensive and therefore depending on the routes you want to install can take up to 2GB of your hard disk. Once installed you are taken to the main menu. There is a feature which enables you to sit back and enjoy a demonstartion train ride - which is rather boring. Like me I went straight for the 'Drive a train' section. You may think to yourself, how can a game where you drive a train for between 30mins and 2 hours be addictive? This is what I first thought when I saw the game in a game shop. I had a look at the back and I did think to myself that can driving a train bring much satisfaction? I play games to use up spare time and to feel like I have accomplised things and MS Train Sim didn't seem that like that type of game. So I went back home and decided to have a look at some writeups on it.
