Advantages: Fun to play, doesn't take much memory.
Disadvantages: Crashes occasionally and doesn't load sometimes.
Some people don't like RPG's, they should play this and become as addicted to it as I am. This game loads up with some pentagram on the screen and a Big Red Hand dropping a man form it, this is the beginning of the great Ultima 8. The Guardians voice sounds a bit corny, but as it was made in 1994 you can forgive it. I got this game in the Ultima: Compendium and loaded it stragiht away. The graphics seemed a bit old but the gameplay of it was excellent. There are a lot of sub-quests in this game which are fun to play. One of the downsides of this game and the whole collection is the fact that you don't get the manual in the actual game you get it on CD in Help file format, this may sound OK, but as the help file is Windows-based and the game is DOS-based, it is very hard to read the manual at the same time as the game. There is a text file supplied on the disc, although the same problem is encountered, the game is in DOS where you can't multi-task, the only way round this is to print one of the files, but as they are at least 50 pages long this may be a lot of printing. The story so far: You were plucked from Earth long ago and brought to the magical land of Brittania. There you fought evil at every step, and one. Your enemies ranged from Sorcerers to evil Cults. One of your opponents was called the Guardian this being was a great evil thing that commanded its minions to attack you on sight. You were grabbed by the Guardian and were deposited in Pagan, a world dominated by the forces of evil. There you have to find your way back to Brittania and Earth, conquering the four elemental magics along the way. I won't say anymore because that would give away the game. Four Problems I encountered were that; A) You had to set files=40 in config.sys, very easy to do but confusing for beginners, B) The game kept crashing at random points, the most annoying of which was in combat when you attack at the
same time as the monster attacks and something else is happening, the computer can't deal with it and puts up a General Protection fault on the screen. This closes the game and if you haven't saved for a while it can be quite frustrating, C) The maps sometimes didn't load properly and put ditches with no graphics in and extra graphics hovering above the land? D) My sound card wasn't recognized and kept crashing the game, so I had to play the whole game with no music or sound.
