Advantages: Good graphics, Great sound, Good concepts.

Disadvantages: No life on the planets, about 100 different key combinations, long travel times.

Universal combat is a game created by the somewhat infamous Derek Smart. this game is the next in the line of series such as Battlecruiser 3000, and despite many bad reviews about this game, i actually enjoyed it.
It's the concept I like, the fact you can travel to any planet in the solar system, and then land on it, leave your mothership in a fighter, or engage in planetary combat, really makes the scope of this game great.
The graphics are amazing, with planet surfaces being rendered accurately, and highly detailed, with spaceships showing signs of damage, and weapons sparking, it really makes you feel "there"
The sound is immersive, and drags you in whether you want to or not, and as ship system sounds stop when things go wrong, you'll soon have an ear for the situation.
There are a few gripes though. The space travel around planets (not too planets) is real time. Despite your ships engines pushing really hard, it is annoying to see a fight in the background, head towards it, and then have to turn back as it's ended before you even get there.
Also, there's absolutely NO ANIMAL LIFE on the planets. There's buildings, and (walk-through-able) trees, but no people to shoot/blow up.
It's just not as fun destroying bases if no-one shoots back.
Still, if you're a space-flight fan, or just like exploration with occasional fights, this game is for you.

Summary: If you like space simulations, or jsut exploring with occasional fights, get this game.
