Advantages: Fun, gameplay, stress relief

Disadvantages: One dimensional

Playing Unreal Tournament 2003 is one of my favourite stress-relief activities; butchering huge numbers of unlucky characters from various fantasy worlds may not be everybody's cup of tea, but if it is, you'll find satisfaction in Unreal Tournament.

The game is split into two main parts; a single player 'tournament' mode and a single/multiplayer 'skirmish' mode. Within this tournament mode are four different tournament types; deathmatch, team deathmatch, bombing run, and capture the flag. This, I feel, is where the game is slightly let down; yes, there's four different modes, but each comes down to the same thing - whoever can kill the largest number of people in the shortest time wins. That said, the variability in game modes does make it slightly more interesting. The skirmish mode allows you to play online/on a network, or just instantly in a deathmatch/team deathmatch scenario. It's great if you just want to start up the game and get shooting, but again, can be a little one dimensional.

The gameplay is very good; graphics are good when they're on high, and there's something satisfying about the way characters behave once they've been shot/killed; there's also constant banter flying around between characters that can either be very annoying, or very amusing. Whilst overall Unreal Tournament is a little one dimensional, it's still entertaining and a good way of excising stress.

Summary: A good game if you're into FPS's, but otherwise, dificult to justify spending money on
