Having been a fan of first person shooters since my first PC I had become bored with what I had in my collection and decided that it was time to buy a new game. Since I really only play games over the internet I decided that it would be best to get a game that was designed with internet play in mind, in comes Unreal Tournament. I at first downloaded the demo along with the Quake 3 demo, but after seeing the superior graphics of UT and the superior game play over Quake 3 I decided to go with Unreal.

I purchased the game from an online vendor without the box and packaging materials for twenty dollars, it was a special they were having however I know that it usually sells for forty dollars retail. Whether you get this for twenty or forty dollars it is still an excellent buy. This is by far one of my favorite games, much better than my previous favorite Half-life TFC. The levels are intense, the graphics are awesome, and the music rocks. My favorite aspect of this game is that somehow they have cut down on the effects of lag, which is a definite bonus. I love the variety of levels, characters you can choose from and the interesting weapons. I especially like the shoulder mounted nuclear rocket that you can find which you can guide directly towards an opposing member. There is also a sniper rifle (which is very cool), a razor gun(they can bounce off walls of explode), a rail/plasma gun (quite powerful but hard to use), a rocket launcher (also powerful but difficult to use), regular hand guns (what you start with, weak but effective), a machine/gattling gun, and a laser type weapon that shoots a green stream or round balls (not that powerful but looks very cool. So as I said there is a wide variety of weaponry.

The difficulty of the opponents depends on either their skill or if they are bots. The computer controls bots, and the user who is hosting the game determines their difficulty. Expect to find those who can kill you with ease and those whom you c
an kill quite easily. I find playing against Bots to be annoying and would rather only play people but I know that bots help to keep the server running smoothly.

The only real downside to this game is that in order to play you should have a relatively fast connection and a fast computer. I would recommend at least a 56k modem and connection along with at least a 450mhz processor with 64mges of ram. I myself play this on a 450 Celeron with 128megs of ram and a cable modem and find it at times to be twitchy but I am sure it will be do-able with a 56k connection.

Overall, Unreal Tournament is one of the best games that I have ever played. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for a great, exciting and different first person shooter. The graphics are breathtaking, they may even inspire you to buy a bigger monitor so that you can soak up all the rich colors and detailed lines the characters and backgrounds have to offer.
