Advantages: Easy to get into, good graphics, good learning curve, many variations of game
Disadvantages: A little buggy (though can be resolved in the main with the patch)
Virtual Pool 3 is a brilliantly addictive and emminently playable game by Celeris. So what exactly makes it addictive, well here is an example: I started playing the excellent multiplayer mode this is what happened: 11.00pm - 1 last game of 9-ball 11.10pm - just one more this continued until around 12.45am where I was forced to quit by two factors. My eyes were becoming increasingly heavy :-) and thus were stopping ol Eagle Eye (me) from doing as well as I should have been doing, secondly I had work in the morning. The multiplayer is brilliant I never noticed any lag at all, I took the shot, the shot was played that second. Likewise when they took a shot. Getting into the multiplayer mode is made quite easy by using Gamespy Arcade (Shareware version is packaged with the game) The single player modes have a lot of diversity in them, from 9 Ball, Snooker, Billiards etc this game has many different game variations. The rules for some of them though ie 8 ball Pub are not exactly the same rules we use in the UK. This is not really to the detriment of what is a remarkable game. The graphics do their job well, the control system is a dream once you get used to it. You have to use the mouse to stroke the cue, this soon becomes second nature. I will elaborate more on the graphics, if you look at older snooker or pool games, like Jimmy Whites 2 or Virtual Pool Hall, then you would notice the balls had little jagged edges around them. Well in VP3 the balls are more well rounded, very very smooth, and very impressive how they have managed to make them so spherical and smooth, where other games have failed. The control system is extremely simple and intuitive to pick up. Basically you hold down a key or mouse button to apply a function, for example by default S = Stroke, E= Side, etc. You hold down one of the keys and then actually use the mouse to apply side by m
oving the cue, or the really brilliant part, to take the shot. Before you say I know this feature was in Jimmy Whites 2, but it was woefully inadequate, and was far too tough to use. VP3 refines it, so much so that in the end you are whizzing around the table. This game is Pukka I can assure you that if you buy it you will become as hopelessly addicted to it as I have.
