Advantages: Realistic dogfights
Disadvantages: None
Update: There have been two recent additions to the terrain files. A battle of Britain version of Northern Europe and a new version of the Mediteranean theatre with more ground targets. For example new bridges and parked aircraft. The anti-aircraft guns seem to be better too making the targets harder to get to. Warbirds is both an "online" and "offline" WWII flight simualtor combat game. The software can be downloaded from http://www.iencentral.com/warbirds/index.shtml (its large, 34 Mb for the game and 2Mb for the internet interface) but its free to play offline. Prices vary for the "online" games but you'll be playing against real people. There are a lot of related sights and if your keen you can get training for the online dogfights. There are a number of ways to play Warbirds that take in the various aspects of WWII ariel combat. Bombing, torpedoes, ground attack rockets, paratroops and, as mentioned earilier, dogfighting. You can try your hand at take off and landings both on dry land or carriers too. The flight characteristics of the various planes can be set to easy flight or realistic. The combat from novice to ace. There is a related site for those of you who prefer WWI called "Dawn of Aces" and it can be accessed from the above address. There is likely to be an upgrade soon called "Warbirds III" with better graphics and more ground targets. "Beware of the Hun in the Sun!"

- 15/03/01 I never heard of this game! Mind you, I'm not into flight games anymore. I had TFX on 11 floppy disks, and that's the only flight game I bought, just cause I never had a powerful enough computer. I moved on to better games like Hitman and Gunman :) |
