Advantages: Relistic Looking Armys, Many new mod's appearing on the internet, AI's are actually challanging
Disadvantages: Need to download patch
Many modern real time strategy games try to incorporate fantastic graphics with realistic looking aliens, most of the time they end up with creatures that resemble blobs or gremlins and aren’t realistic at all.
Dawn of war has a different approach, as it is the only game that is based on 25years of modelling experience from the "games workshop" games system. the races and characters created including the ferocious orks, valiant space marines, cunning eldar or terrifying chaos.
All have streamlined and well thought out units and specific strengths and weaknesses that you (the commander) need to identify and play to in order to beat your opposition.
The game has 5 levels of difficulty: easy, standard, hard, harder and insane. and when it says insane it means insane! if you don’t dominate your game from the very beginning the enemy army will be all over you!
The game has a campaign which unfortunately isn’t up to much, but this is more than made up for with the skirmish options which gives you unlimited maps and scenarios from both official game sites and armature game designers.
The game also has a good online gaming feature, however it becomes a game of possession as resources become the battle winner as the armies are so closely matched.
The graphics are excellent in quality and the game runs seamlessly on a Pentium 4 laptop as well as a desktop pc and so is great to travel around with.
All of the game faults I found within the game have been repaired with the update which is automatically downloaded when you log onto the online gaming network (gamespy) and there have been no problems since.
One of my favourite games to date!
