Advantages: Good co-op mode, Decent graphics
Disadvantages: Easy to get bored of, Poor voice acting, Too similar to Serious Sam
Will Rock is a classic arcade-style first person shooter, which combines elements of combat and exploration. Since Will Rock doesn't try to be more than a conventional shooter, you wouldn't expect there to be much of a story, and there isn't. Will Rock's plot is introduced through a series of stylish comic-book slides. You play the role of Willford Rockwell (aka Will Rock), an unlikely hero whose body is inhabited by the spirit of a defiant Titan. Along with Dr. Richard Headstrong and his daughter Emma, you arrive in Ancient Greece. Emma is disappeared in the mountains during an archaeological expedition and you must battle some of mythology's most powerful foes to save her. Not much of a story, but who cares.
Will Rock is a lot like Serious Sam, enemies charge in hordes at you, you aim and shoot and see your enemies break in to pieces. Instead of aliens, you gun down all manner of mythological beasties, including animated Greek statues, minotaurs, firebirds, satyrs and more. Similarly to Serious Sam, these creatures are going to come at you in droves. There's a few oversized bosses stand between you and victory, including the Cyclops, Hephaestus, Medusa, and of course, a climactic battle with Zeus. Fortunately, you have plenty of ammo and power-ups with which to deal with the onslaught. There's Titan Damage, Titan Motion (slow motion), and Invulnerability which can all be triggered any time once you've bought one. There's a good variety of weapons, including: shotguns, pistols, machine guns, etc. The Ancient Greek/Roman setting allows for unique weapons that support the game's theme, including a Medusa Gun, Flaming Crossbow and Acid Rifle. Essentially, you're going from level to level leveling ev
erything in your path. In total, Will Rock contains 10 single-player levels - each ending with an event such as a boss or puzzle to solve. There are three different multiplayer modes, standard deathmatch, a cooperative game called "Treasure Hunt" and the coop mode for playing the single-player game as a team, with a total six levels. The co-op mode is probably the best thing here.
Is Will Rock good? That depends on your taste. I've noticed some people like this game, some don't. I really loved to play Serious Sam, but playing Will Rock didn't impress me much. Will Rock is not bad game, but I expected better atmosphere or just something better than Serious Sam. Maybe it's just me, but I got bored with this game pretty soon. Anyway, if you're a fan of Serious Sam, you should give Will Rock a chance.
