Advantages: Expanded content, new challenges, good graphics, sociable gameplay

Disadvantages: Monthly fee, online content only, no new character slots

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (WoW:TBC) is the first expansion to the award winning World of Warcraft online game. The original game is required in order to play WoW:TBC. Like the original game all content is online only, however the subscription fee from the original game remains at £8.99 per month, and there is no additional cost for using WoW:TBC other than the original outlay for the expansion.

WoW:TBC raises the level cap from 60 to 70 and adds a new continent for exploration. Outland is divided into zones, similar to the original game, however while there are horde and alliance towns and camps, all lands are for both factions, as is the Outland city of Shattrah. Shattrah is a large city with two factions, the Aldor and the Scryers, with whom you can choose to ally. Shattrah has a flight path, guild bank and personal bank as well as profession trainers. There are also portals back to the cities of Azeroth. Where Shattrah falls down is that there is no Auction House, and no class trainers. If a hearthstone is on cooldown it is a long trek back after learning new skills in Azeroth.

The new zones are well thought out with good quest stacking and achievements. There are more than enough quests to get from 60-70, and further quests open up at 70 which pay better to make up for no longer gaining experience. There are also a variety of instances and raids, which begin from 10 players. The new 10 player raids begin with Kharazan and Zul Aman, and enable the smaller guilds to see endgame content.

There are also new starting zones for the two new races, the Draenei and the Blood elves. These open up new early content and have a wider variety of quests than the original starting zones. Unfortunately no new character slot has been added, meaning players who have already created one of every other class may have to delete in order to create one of the new races. A new profession has also been added of jewelcrafting, and socketed items have been introduced.

Overall WoW:TBC offers a good variety of content for all types of gamer, and offers the seasoned WoW players new challenges and experiences in both pvp and pve play.

Summary: Excellent expansion but try the original game first
