Worms 2 is a sequel to the ingeniously simple 1995 original, and like the original it is a turn-based artillery game in which you must attempt to kill opposing teams of worms using a variety of zany weaponry. This includes bazookas and several types of grenades, whose accuracy depends upon the player's accuracy in judging the amount of force needed to provide the appropriate projectile trajectory required to hit your opponent, also taking into consideration windspeed, which changes every turn. Other weapons include a pistol, shotgun, machinegun, minigun, and airstrikes called down from above, as well as numerous cartoony weapons such as explosive sheep, explosive homing pigeons, explosive old women, sticks of dynamite and banana bombs.

The levels are varied and are also made of wholly destructive terrain, and opponents can also be killed by sending them plunging into the water or careening off the end of the map screen. The worms all make amusing cartoony comments throughout combat, and you can choose from a range of voice suites for your team as well as name your individual worms. You can even import your own soundfiles, and can also create your own maps using the incredibly simple map generator.

As in the original the gameplay is simple and accessible and tends to be rather fast-paced, and is suitable for players of all ages due to its mix of cartoonish charm and its scope for myriad combat tactics. Several teams can play against eachother at once, and though the computer AI is pretty good Worms 2 is a game that is really best experienced in multiplayer mode, and can be played either crowded round a single computer or against multiple opponents over the internet. The graphics are bright and colourful, with pleasing animation, and Worms 2 is a very addictive little game that can be returned to again and again. You can pick it up very cheap these days, too, making it well worth a look.
