Antec Basiq BP350P-GB ... odd thing to review but one of the best products around so here goes... I bought this after my silly mother bought a new computer because she claimed the computer "went bang" I looked at and said all it needed was a new PSU but she said "what if you re wrong?" well I wasn t wrong and got this to replace the broken one. First off it s made by Antec, one of the best component manufacturers around also producing such products as the Nine Hundred Gamers case. So when I got it I opened it up to find a product that looked as if it had been hand-made by the world s best PSU producer. It feels sturdy, no rattles and I was tempted to see how much abuse it ... Antec NeoHE 500 EC ... supplies for computers are surrounded by a myth. This is that many people think you need 1kw+ power supplies for almost every PC that is made for gaming. This is wrong, to use up more than 1kw you would need ot be spending £2k+ on a PC. I chose the Antec NeoHE 500w as it was cheap, modular and 500w is perfect for a decent gaming PC. I bought mine from www.specialtech.co.uk for £50 about 6 months ago. The power supply comes in a sturdy box. The box is covered in information that might make you purchase the PSU if you were browsing in a shop. Inside the box you will find the PSU itself, the modular cables and some papers. Antec Smartpower 2.0 SP-350PEC ... with it. The chance of failure is influenced by where its position - ones mate who had one failed in only 3 months because it was in a cramped case with no case fans providing airflow. Still any decent psu would handle that situation fine. The one I ve got is going ok until recently when random crashes are starting to occur. So unfortunate since its a solid design otherwise. Anyone looking at Antec psu s should stear clear of this model, grab a newer earthwatts instead as they have better quality capacitors that wont fail in as little as 6 months.
