*****WARNING THIS REVIEW WILL BE GRAPHIC******
I have some of the worst periods imaginable and it is so much worse at night than it is during this day. This means that I have to feel comfident in what I am using at night. Tampons are not an option, a family member of mine died from toxic shock syndrome and this has put me off using them for anytime when I am not fully in control.
I have had so many mishaps as a result of the wrong pad. I need them to be long and wide with some decent wings. This is where these come in. They keep me dry and comfortable all day and they don't shift and slide. I often have issues with pads twisting, turning or starting to peel away during the night - this does not happen with these. The pad has enough stick to it that it does not come away and the wings, do not rip, tear or disconnect.
They are also very good at controlling any 'odours'. This is definitely something that the cheaper brands do not do. These towels are thick and very absorbant, but they are still discreet. They could quite easily be worn during the day and would not be obvious.
These can be bought from a huge number of chemists and supermarkets and can often be bought in value packs and these cost anywhere from £2. As I said earlier these are not the cheapest pads but for the level of comfort provided and the confidence they are definitely worth it.
Always Ultra night time sanitary pads with wings
When it is that time of the month I prefer to use a combination of tampons along with pads and I almost always prefer to use pads over night. When buying sanitary products I do tend to be quite brand loyal to Always as I have been using various Always sanitary towels for years and I have found them to be reliable time after time, which in my opinion is exactly what you need from any sanitary product.
Personally, I do tend to have periods that are on the heavier side, so at night time I want a long, super absorbent yet comfortable pad to give me that extra peace of mind, which Always Night time delivers. It is one of the longest pads available in their range and it is classified as super absorbent, I think it might be one of the most absorbent sanitary towels that Always offer. They are comfortable to wear and when the pad is in place it's easy to forget about it and just get on with my night time routine and even on my heaviest flow days I always find Always Ultra night time sanitary pads with wings reliable.
I do when available usually opt to buy the sanitary pads with the option of wings, as they just give me that added extra peace of mind that the pad is going to stay in place. I have never had a problem with the Always Ultra night time sanitary pads with wings and I have found that they adhere to most underwear material and when in place don't move around, which really makes them more comfortable and more reliable to wear. Really I can confidently wear the Always night time pads all night without a worry even when I toss and turn quite a bit.
The only thing I don't quite like about the Always Ultra sanitary pad and this probably goes for all the Always products these days is the strange fragrance of pot-pourri you get when you unwrap one of the pads. It's odd. It is also something that I could quite happily live without and go back to the days when there was no included fragrance. And really I don't think I have noticed any additional benefits of the fresher for longer fragrance aspect.
The Always Ultra night time sanitary pads with wings are available from most supermarkets or chemists for around £2 for a packet of 10 or you can buy them in duo packs.
Always Ultra night time sanitary pads with wings - Five out of five stars.
Fifty percent of the population have to deal with periods, and the other fifty percent usually have to deal with the fallout of periods! The upshot is menstruation affects everyone.
Like many women, periods are a rotten time for me. I bloat, feel cranky and sore. For seven days out of twenty-eight I turn into Hormone Monster(TM)
This misery can't be avoided, so I mitigate it as much as possible by using products that minimise my discomfort and maximise the ease of dealing with the monthly bleed.
When I hit puberty the only sanitary towels available were big, bulky things that rolled up in my knickers and always let fluids leak onto my clothes. They were uncomfortable, impractical and just compounded my misery. Thank goodness for the advances in technology! We now have a range of thin, light, *winged* products to choose from that are comfortable, practical and don't result in a rolled up wad of cotton in your drawers!
Always Night Time towels are the longest and most heavy-duty in the range. Like all Always towels they are colour coded: dark blue being the colour used for this particular type. They come in plastic packs of ten or eighteen (the latter being called Always Ultra Night Duo). Each towel is individually wrapped in its own blue plastic, useful if, like me, you use a range of different towels during your period and keep them all mixed up in a big box!
Each individual pack unwraps easily, revealing a towel folded in three, with an adhesive strip on the back. When pulled off the 'wings', side tabs which fold around your pants and anchor the pad, are revealed.
The towel itself is made of an absorbant pad with a soft, mesh top layer and a plastic backing. The central core of the towel wicks in the menstrual fluids and the towels also contain 'odour neutralising pearls' to lock away unpleasant smells.
These towels are widely available in supermarkets and pharmacies, and are often on special offer or part of a multibuy promotion. I always bulk-buy them when I see them cheaper, as they aren't going to expire!
I've tried virtually all the sanitary pad brands on the market at one time or another but I always *ahem* come back to Always as they are the most reliable and comfortable. The towels adhere well to my undies. The Night towels are so long that I am confident wearing them when overnight when my bleeding is heaviest. I usually sleep on my stomach, and many towels don't reach high enough for me to be confident that I'm not going to leak when sleeping in this position. This means I often wake up in the night worried that I've leaked and caused a mess in the bed.
Always Night towels, however, are very long and in all the years I've been using them I've never leaked, so now I relax and sleep properly on nights when I have to rely on them.
Being female, I have to use these (or similar) but hey, comes with the territory! Sorry this is a short review.
These are very easy to use, you just take them out of the wrapper and put them on your panties and you're away! The only problem I have with these is the advert. Absolutely hate it. 'Have a happy period'..... Who comes up with those lines?! I've used these since I was younger as they were the ones my mum used so were the ones we had in - I think my mum has good choice when it comes to these (don't agree with her on everything though!)
But anyway! Back to the review!
**So what are they like?**
I've tried various brands over the years and always come back to this brand. They are comfy, they're 'airy' and don't annoy me when using them. They stick in place and with the added wings, don't move much at all which is always a plus point. They were also great after I had my son too as I didn't need to use maternity ones after a couple of days, and I actually preferred them over the maternity ones.
They are good value for money, and there is usually an offer on in tesco or other supermarkets which saves money. (Who isn't happy when they save money on something? Especially when it's an essential.) There are other brands out there, but these certainly live up to their reputation, and quite frankly I'd rather pay out a bit extra with these as they don't irritate me, they don't constantly move, and more importantly they have never leaked in over 10 years of using them. I definitely recommend, though sometimes I do wish I wasn't female so I didn't have to buy them ;-)

When it comes to sanitary towels and the purchase of them I am a bit of a creature of habit really. I usually grab a packet of Always or Bodyform in a supermarket or chemist and as a result seem to have loads of different types of the towels/pads all over the place and never run out lol.
I am someone who likes to get the right product for the right job so for nighttime usage I always use night time towels/pads because I feel I need to use something very durable as I usually don't wake from my slumber to change said towel/pad and the thought of messing my gorgeous bedding up fills me with total terror!
The towels come in a light blue packet with a yellow moon and stars on the front of it and I am told that they are Always 'Ultra' Night and that there are 10 in my particular packet and that they are highly absorbent and there is a picture depicted of one of the towels on there. Other information on the packet shows me a picture of the towel and a bit about them along with being told a little bit about the towel, I am told about other products from within the Always range and contact details for Procter & Gamble (the manufacturer of the product) are given. The top of the packet is easy to gently tear open as it is has a perforated line given and inside, each towel is wrapped in a light blue plastic wrapper with a small white sticky label on each to keep them secure.
A Bit About The Product According To The Information Given On The Back Of The Packet:
Every day should be a happy one, even the ones when you need us. We know there are some parts of period we can't help with, but those we can, we more than will. Always Ultra Protection has a new Instant dry effect guiding fluid quickly from the topsheet, deep into the core. So you can enjoy the pleasant feeling of dryness - in an instant. Have a happy periods. Always.
All you do is gently open one of the folded wrappers and you are greeted with a rather wide and long towel that has a sticky piece of paper to the top of it which folds out and you simply peel off the little label which protects the wings that stick to your underwear. The towel has a perforated thin cloth like soft covering over the actual towel and covers mainly a white area with a light blue pattern over it which has sort of grooves etc of course to help stop the leaking. The underside is simply a thin waterproof white plastic that easily pulls away from the wrapper and all you do is gently push one on to your period pants...at night.
When I initially saw and felt the thinness of the these I thought oh dear me! However these mould to your body well, are thin and smooth enough to be forgotten about and really are highly absorabnt...so much so that even though I have left one on for hours whilst I have slept no leaks have occurred and moisture really is locked in. You can't flush these and so I do wrap them up very well and dispose of them in a bin.
All in all I think these are excellent, high quality and super absorbent towels that are incredibly soft to use and I can just sleep without worrying! A great buy and I won't hesitate in purchasing these time and time again in the future!
Available in all good supermarkets and chemists etc priced at about £1.00 a packet.
A few weeks ago I reviewed Always Ultra Normal daytime pads, so I thought it was time to follow it up with an exciting sequel: a review of Always Ultra Night pads. What fun!
Always Night pads come in packs of 10 or 20. The packs are a deep blue colour with small pictures of a yellow moon and stars, alongside the Always logo. I quite like the packaging as it's a relaxing colour for nightime.
Each pad is individually wrapped in a light blue packet with a swirly pattern on. This is great as it keeps the pads fresh and clean, and means that you can pop a couple in your bag if you're going away from the weekend, and be confident that they will still be intact when you reach your destination.
The pads have a high absorbency (6 out of a possible 6 drops, according to the pack) and so should last you all night. They are 317 mm long and 3 mm thick (though you can also get the Maxi type which are 6 mm thick).
They have wings, which helps to secure them and ensure they don't budge during the night, thus cutting down on any possible leaks.
They also have a unique 'CleanFeel' technology which involves a topsheet that guides fluid and odours into the centre of the pad.
I have used these pads for years and I wouldn't change to any other. They are reliable and do the job that they are designed for, what more can you ask? Price-wise, they will set you back around £2.18 for 10, which is more expensive than some brands, but it's worth it.
i love this product it makes me feel so secure during the days and even in the nights,i think this is the right protection that a female cud ever ask for during her menstrual days. I've used other pads and tampons and i got alot of accidents and i was jus so tired of it and am a female that loves to try new tings and thats wen i discovered this product. Always keep u secure, fresh and confident. I love it ! (smile)
I know that heading sounds like an adman's blurb but these towels are excellent, the best I've found for night times during the first day(s) of a period. I got sick and tired of washing out sheets 2 nights running and when I saw these in Boots, I thought, right! They do cost a bit more than the usual pads but I don't need them for the whole 4 days, only the first 2 nights, so it makes it more economical. Always Longer Pads are good too and I always choose the ultra thinner ones with wings (luvvy!) as they are more comfortable. I worked for Procter & Gamble (who make them) for 3 years during the 90's and although I was not totally happy there, their products have always been top quality and do what they say they will do and so I continue to buy them (no longer at a staff discount!)
Always Night Time are an absolute god send! I have suffered from heavy periods ever since i started and that time of the month always used to be extremely depressing for me. After trying quilted ones, winged ones and rub your thighs thick ones i would still suffer from leakages and life was really becoming unbearable. That was when mom came home with the ultimate solution... ALWAYS NIGHT TIMES! Priced at about £2.18 for 10 you might be forgiven for thinking these are expensive but trust me - they're worth it! Looking at the packet and seeing the word night time scared me "BIG THICK COTTON WADS" i thought, but oh no, Stoopid me! The pad itself is 0.5mm thick and really does do its job. They obviously have taken note of us women and made the pad and wings longer so there are no chance of leakages and the result is extremely comfortable. The whole pad is punched and the top layer is a different material with ridges to make it a lot more absorbent and keep you drier. I wear this pad in the daytime because it is as thin and sometimes thinner than normal sanitary towels. It also gives me more confidence in myself because i feel dryer and know i won't leak. In conclusion i would strongly recommend Always Night times. If you don't take my word for it then contact the Always helpline and request a free sample before you shell out on a whole packet. They keep me dry, make me confident and comfortable. Hats off to Always!
