Advantages: Moist?

Disadvantages: Overpriced, chemical ingredients, still need to use toilet roll

I only found out about Andrex moist toilet wipes when we were at a mini festival a while ago and I bought a copy of the Guardian and received a free bag which contained some flip flops and a pack of Andrex Moist toilet wipes. I thought this was a bit bizarre and un-newspaper related but free stuff is always a bonus in my book.

Needless to say, they just sat in our bathroom for a few months until I decided to try them out one day to see what exactly the difference is and if there are any benefits to using moist toilet roll or if it is just like using moistened toilet roll. My pack did not come in a box as shown in the photograph. It came in a blue plastic pack with a clear sticker on the front that opens and closes the pack. The wipes are each square and A5 sized. They are all stuck together and perforated, so one wipe will not just come out of the pack on it's own- you have to hold the pack and tear at the perforations.

I find two come out of the pack and it is a bit fiddly to just tear off one wipe then you have to stuff the second wipe back into the pack taking care to seal it back up to prevent them all drying out. The wipes are very moist as opposed to being just a little damp. You could not squeeze liquid out of them, but they are very wet. They have a fresh bathroom wipe smell. I would not use these at a festival as a replacement for a deodorant wipe as they smell like toilet wipes so you would not want to emit the odour of toilet wipes!

Each pack contains 42 A5 size wipes. The wipes are white. Each pack has two Andrex puppy tokens on for you collectors out there. The directions on the pack are you are supposed to use the wipes AS WELL AS using the toilet roll. So it seems a bit of a marketing ploy to get people to buy not only Andrex toilet roll but Andrex moist toilet wipes too.

Each pack costs £1.84- £2.10 but I have seen online you can pay a bit extra to get a plastic box to keep your wipes in and the pack I was given is actually a "refill pack". As the refill pack has a re-seal sticker, I see no reason why you could not just buy the refill pack and save you the extra cost of having a box. 42 wipes does not seem a great deal and if you were to use these every time you went to the bathroom, a pack would only last a matter of days.

I think the whole point of these is to use them only ocasionally. If you feel a bit less than fresh for example. The wipes are flushable and alcohol free. There is a huge list of ingredients on the pack which surprised me as it is a moist wipe. The ingredients are all chemical sounding and there are lots of "methyl- / butyl-/ hexyl- " starting words listed. I thought these would just be some mild cleanser and water and a wipe.

Apart from the puppy tokens, picture of the Andrex dog and list of ingredients, there is not much other information on the pack. As these are quite expensive and contain scary sounding chemicals, and as you have to use toilet roll anyway after you use these to dry yourself post wipe, I cannot really see the point in buying these regularly. So, unless you have a medical reason where these would be of benefit to you, I would not recommend them as they are expensive, and I cannot see a use for them on the whole.

Summary: Quite pointless unless you need these for medical reasons
