Advantages: Nice Packaging, Tough
Disadvantages: Too small, Too Thick, No spermicide
WARNING! This opinion contains sexual innuendo and references!!! I have never been keen to go paddling with my boots on, preferring a more natural approach to sex. However, condoms are one of the best methods of contraception and can help to prevent all sorts of nasty sexually transmitted diseases. Fortunately, I am in a long term relationship, other birth control methods are being used and the need to put a bag on my head, as it were, is not required very often. Unfortunately one such occasion came up recently and I decided to check out the latest range in my local Tesco's store. Browsing the shelves I came across various different brands. Some old favourites <ahem> and some I'd never even heard of before. Avanti fall in the latter category, although I have read the odd opinion or two about them and most seemed pretty positive. So, having supped up on the vitamins for the last couple of days, I decided to go mad and splash out on a pack of five. Perhaps it was the attractive black and purple box or maybe the encouraging lines "The most natural feeling revolutionary non-latex condoms" but for some reason they just jumped out on me! At around seven pounds a pack they were not cheap but what the hell I'm worth it! <cough> When the big moment arrived (Half time, England verses Argentina I think!) I opened the box and was presented with five attractively packaged condoms. Sticking with nice purple and black colour scheme, the individual packets are of a good size. This is very helpful when you are fumbling to open them through sweaty palms. Upon examining the contents, the first thing I noticed was the size. Before anyone comments, I consider myself of average size in the manhood department, but these seemed a bit on the small size! Sure enough they were a bit of a tight squeeze, officially being 64 millimetres in width. The next thing I noticed was the texture and thi
ckness. The texture was like a harsher feeling than the usual condom and the lubricant a bit minimal. It said on the packet that they are made from a revolutionary new material, which would explain the texture. As for the lubricant, well this condom uses a non-spermicidal lubricant which can be a better choice for any poor soul who might be allergic to certain spermicides. This is however, a bad thing if you are using condoms purely for birth control and you should bare this in mind if that is the case. The feeling mmmm..... errrr.. mmmm.... noooooo that's me thinking, not testing! Well to be honest they looked and felt quite thick when they were off and when I put one on.... it felt very, very thick. So much so that I actually lost interest around about the same time as the second half kicked off (purely a coincidence I swear!) I gave up, tugged it off (several pulls, not for pleasure, it was just so tight!) and threw it out of the window (always popular with the neighbours, I am!) So overall, what do I think? Well if it looks like a tree, it smells like a tree then it's a tree right? Well they looked small and tight, they felt small and tight and yes you guessed it, they were small and tight. The lubricant was insufficient and soon wore off too. One good they about these passion killers, is that unlike most condoms you can use oil based lubricants without out damaging its strength. But they are horrible and this minor advantage is far outweighed by the drawbacks. While I think of it, they did smell like normal condoms and were quite sturdy so I guess they could take quite a hammering if you are feeling energetic! Still, even this doesn't make much difference! Take my advice and try a different brand of condom, as these are just nasty! Oh and what a game eh one of the best matches I've ever seen! .

- 30/06/09 Re the spermicide bit: No Durex condoms have spermicide any more these days, and I haven't seen any other brands that do either. It's not just an Avanti thing. |

- 07/08/02 I think I'll get some of these for when I'm not in the mood and by the time the hubby gets one on he'll have lost interest! |
