Advantages: safe, comfortable, easy to use, quick to put on

Disadvantages: nothing fancy

Something to notice about the "Extra Safe" range by Durex is that, contrary to popular belief, they don't actually contain spermicide. I think they used to, but for some reason they not only don't list it as an ingredient but there is now a small piece on the packet about it, saying "These condoms do not contain spermicide" (or words to that effect).

So the basis for the "Extra Safe" description is that they are slightly thicker than average, and that they contain extra lubricant (presumably to reduce the chance of them breaking).

There's nothing particularly special about these. They don't feel any thicker than other condoms, and you don't really realise you're using "safe" ones, which is why they are the "staple" condom of choice for my partner and me - by which I mean they are the ones we normally use when we're not trying out ribbed, dotted, tingly or otherwise fancy varieties.

To be honest, since I'm on the pill, we hardly need the extra layer of protection, but why not? If it's a choice between these and "standard" condoms, we might as well use them since they feel the same. The only downside is that they're a little boring... but then you wouldn't want to use fancy ones ALL the time, would you?

The other feature that these have (which is actually a feature of almost the entire Durex range) is that they have the nice "Easy-on" shape - it basically means the end of the condom is a little bit wider to accommodate the head of the penis and make them quicker to put on. And they are. We're so used to using them that when we use different branded condoms (Mates or Pasante) it's more difficult than we expect because they haven't got the nice "tailored fit"!

Summary: A nice "staple" condom without any fancy extras
