Now, here’s an op guaranteed to get some men squirming in their computer chairs at the mere sight of the category heading, and others reading avidly in fascination at this detailed account of...vaginal itching.

Now, having an itchy flower does not mean that you are a) Unhygienic or b) infested with crabs. Generally neither of these is the case. More often, discomfort of the front bottom is simply due to a deficiency of lactic acid, which controls the natural pH balance, which could be due to anything from pregnancy, diets or periods to the menopause.

When the pH balance is not maintained, not only is it bloody uncomfortable and itchy, but it also affects your natural defences against infection and your vagina ability to self -cleanse.

My own delicate problem started after I decided to give myself a little shave. Without the forest holding the knickers away from my skin, all the moisture that would normally keep my hole happy was instead being rubbed off. It was very uncomfortable, and not wishing to follow my boyfriends’ lead of reaching down and giving it a quick scratch whenever and wherever I felt like it, I instead decided to trot along to my local chemist and see what I could find to resolve the problem!

Behold, on the shelves, next to the condoms I saw my saviour! Lactacyd Femina. There are a few different Lactacyd products, including an active replenishment wash and tissues, but the product I'm reviewing here for your reading (ahem) pleasure is the Daily Protective wash.

The bottle it comes in is subtle and discreet, softly curved, and mainly white with a picture of a tulip in an apricot colour on the front, with the name Lactacyd Femina also in apricot. On the rear of the bottle are instructions for usage and ingredients. It looks pretty, but more importantly, does not scream 'Itchy Mingle' when you look at it.

From the name, the intelligent readers amongst you will have figured out this is intended for daily use, and it's really very simple to use. Simply use it with a soft flannel in exactly the same way you would use soap. Dilute with a little water, and use it to clean the external areas of your vagina. Don't forget to make sure you give the lips that never speak a good rinse. It's not designed for internal use, but don't worry about the odd little splash going up there by accident, it won't harm you.

This milky, soft, pearlescent liquid is easily lathered and is incredibly gentle. I suffered no irritation of my flower after applying. I've found that a very small amount goes a long way, and although I have forgotten to apply this on the odd day or so, it really has made a lot of difference to the level of comfort down there.

It also has a pleasant, mild scent, although I cannot think what it is as it contains no perfumes or artificial fragrance. It does smell very fresh and clean though, and I do now use this not only as part of my daily cleansing routine but also anytime a bit of horizontal action looks likely. I find it tempts the tongue more, if a fella knows that the 'breakfast of champions' isn't always kippers.

This product is also soap and antiseptic free, so is suitable for delicate skin, which given the area it's intended for should go without saying. It;s available in most chemists and supermarkets.
I would highly recommend this product.

It's gentle, fresh, and cleansing, and helps protect the delicate pH balance of your vagina. The cost might seem pricey at around £4.75 for 300ml, but to give you greater comfort in a region where you just can't scratch that itch (at least not without looking a bit skanky), it's worth it.

I've hunted down a free sample as well. Visit http://www.lactacyd.co.uk/g.htm and fill out the form.
Thanks for reading

Summary: Oh yes, I'm on THAT area again!
