Advantages: Protection from disease and pregnancy, Cheaper than Durex, Definite fun factor

Disadvantages: Some users may have allergic reactions

I’ve always previously had a preference to Durex condoms, in particular the Select range that have the rather nice tasting strawberry flavour, and the cool minty green ones. Well, that was until hubby came home with 12 mates..... wooo hooooooo!!!!

So, where the hell do you start with your hubby and 12 mates? Well, firstly before you all get the wrong idea about me and hubby and our sex life, we’re talking Mates, not mates. Mates condoms.

Why did he choose Mates as opposed to my normal preference of Durex? Basically the cost. Only £5.99 for a 12 pack from Tesco.... almost half the price we normally pay for Durex Select so they had to be worth a try.

The Variety pack of mates contains three different types of condom... Coloured, Sensitive, and Intensity, and you get four of each sort in the pack. For the sake of this review, I’m going to concentrate on the Mates Intensity.

They came in a deep burgundy red, shiny foil wrapper. When still inside the packet the feel of it was rather misleading. Both hubby and myself had visions of applying a rubber glove to his... er.... you get the gist, the condom felt very thick.

Opening the packet was a pleasant surprise. The thick feel of the condom in it’s rolled up form was due to hundreds of tiny raised rubber studs for “maximum sensation and excitement”. The actual condom itself was quite thin. I was in hysterical laughter by this point, all I could think of was bubble wrap. That’s what it looked like, scaled down bubble wrap.

The condom was easy to hold, due to the studs and the fact that although lubricated (with non-spermicidal SK-70) it was still quite dry to the touch. It was clear in colour and nipple ended. Putting it on was easy, and it rolled down fully without any trouble.

In between my bouts of laughter, (think bubble wrap next time you use a condom and try to keep a straight face) I asked hubby ho
w it felt to him. I always take “Mmmmm” as a sign of pleasure, so it got the thumb (?) up from hubby!

How did it feel to me? “Mmmmm”. There was a noticeable difference in feel to standard condoms, the raised studded surface definitely made for a pleasant experience. Oh, it didn't smell or taste too bad either!!

I felt totally at ease with this condom. At one point hubby did check to see if it was still properly in place... I could only consider that as a good sign, his sensation and pleasure were obviously not being compromised to any great degree.

There wasn’t any irritation on either part, which was a great relief as there is nothing worse than a pleasurable love-making (that was polite for me) experience followed by the pain and discomfort of an allergic reaction.

Made of natural rubber latex, and manufactured and tested to a high standard of quality, I’d have no hesitation in recommending Mates Intensity to you. As for the other Mates in the pack, when hubby has recovered from the bubble wrap experience, I’ll let you know!
