Morning After Pill (PCP)Newest Review: ... GUM clinics, family planning, your GP and walk-in centres. Though in pharmacies you will have to pay, and expect to pay between £20- £27 ladies. I know, extortionate! No matter what age you are or if you are in full-time education or not this pill will still cost you at a pharmacy. I am not sure if you can get it on prescription, I imagine so. It will be free if your prescriptions are free ... more |

I cannot recall how many times I have had to use this pill. Either once or twice. No more than twice. This pill must be taken within 72 hours of the intercourse, after that it is pretty much pot luck. You can also resort to the coil, which can be inserted up to five days after sex but it causes irregular bleeding and a bit of discomfort when being inserted. This pill can be obtained at pharmacies, GUM clinics, family planning, your GP and walk-in centres. Though in pharmacies you will have to pay, and expect to pay between £20- £27 ladies. The Morning After Pill is used when 'accidents' happen and you want to avoid becoming pregnant. I have had to use this once (I'm sure most girls have had to). I had to use it before it was available over the counter, and as I needed it on a Sunday morning, I resorted going to the local hospital. I know this wasn't the best solution, but as soon as our 'accident' happened, I wanted to take it asap as it is less effective the more time you leave it (it can only be taken up to 72 hours after). The doctor was great, no question asked, he just told me how to take it. It involves swallowing 2 pills, one 12 hours after the first. I was pointed out to the possible side effects, ... The morning after pill (or PCP), is a pill which is to be taken within 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse. The pill stops a pregnancy been able to take place by either stopping an egg from been released into the uterus, or by making the walls uninhabitable. The morning after pill is also for women who are on the contraceptive pill and have been sick and there is a possibility of a pregnancy occuring. Unlike many think, the PCP is NOT a form of abortion, as it STOPS a pregnancy from happening in the first place, let me make this clear, if a pregnancy has already occured, this pill will NOT abort the baby. The PCP is available ... Read the complete review

I'll be honest, I have had to resort to the morning after pill on 3 occasions, 2 of which i think i was being a tad paranoid. This was when I was a teenager, and although I have been well educated on contraception, I felt it necessary to get the morning after pill 'just to be on the safe side'. It is good in the way that it does provide reassurance as well as the obvious 'not getting pregnant', but I would absolutely not advise girls to rely on this as an every day form of contraception. I have heard rumours that you can only take it a maximum of 3 times in your life, as it can have adverse effects on your fertility levels- I am not entirely sure of how true this is but ... I have had to use the morning after pill twice in my whole life, the 1st time was when I was 17 and my long term boyfriend and I had a condom split accident and so I went to the doctors, no questions asked, given the advice to take one pill immediately and then the next pill 12 hours later. I remember taking the first one once I got to work and almost immediately felt very poorly, I had been told if I was sick then I was to take the next one straight away and go back for another, thankfully I wasn't sick but the nausea and the headache was awful. Obviously this pill isn't 100% affective and is best taken the sooner after the incident occured, you ... Read the complete review
