Advantages: It worked fine for me

Disadvantages: irregular menstruations

I have so far used the day after pill on two occasions, both occasions arised from a broken condom with the same partner.

The first time we were in Switzerland, and we went to the chemistry straight after the incident. Interestingly enough, these things always happen at night or on Sunday. I was in Geneve on Sunday, and most of the town was shut. I found that the pharmacy at the train station was open and there was a large queue of people. When finally my turn arrived, I went closer to the lady at the counter and told her what happened. She summoned a senior colleague, who interviewed me, and gave me the pill. I was 14 pounds poorer. It worked, although I felt a bit weak that evening, but may be it was the shock.

The second time was in France. We had sex at 2 am, in a small village, and again, the condom broke. The day after was Sunday again, and we had to drive village past village until when we found a pharmacy. I was given the pill with no questions at all, and it was cheaper, roughly the equivalent of 8 pounds.

It worked the effect on that occasion too. However, I had irregular menstruations as a consequence. I had my period 2 days after taking the pill, although it was not meant to arrive at that time, and again in 2 weeks! Then nothing for nearly 6 weeks.

The morning after pill is meant to do the trick in 95% of the situations when it is taken within 24 hours of sexual intercourse and unless you wish to have a child, it is recommended as a way of preventing being pregnant. It should not be used as a regular way of contraception though.

Summary: It worked for me

I remember once I had to purchase this (I was about 35 at the time) and the horrid Asian pharmacist said she couldn't sell it to me after looking me up and down (me being Asian as well) and giving me a dirty look. The other girl in the shop ran out after me and suggested another chemist down the road where I could get it and said the woman was always like that with Asian women trying to buy the pill, how stupid is that?! LOL! It was near where my husband used to live and needless to say neither of us ever spent any more money in that chemists again!
