Advantages: Discreet, compact, easy to carry
Disadvantages: Can be forgotton as not visable
I know some of pros for tampons, I have personally tried them and I agree certain outfits or situations are better without a towel between ones legs, however I would like to discuss one of the cons of Tampons in general. Although it amazes me that someone could forget they are wearing one, it does happen, the results of which can be awkward or even fatal. As a nurse in general practice, I occasionally meet women who fear they may have not removed a tampon. This is aways brings back memories of a patient I met in this situation. The patient was being seen by a female GP who because of the nature of the intimate examination had asked me to attend for the patients' comfort. The lady concerned had noticed an offensive smell down below, and upon parting her legs, it made me wonder if something had crawled into her most private orifice, curled up and died. I bagan to think the RSPCA would be a more appropriate attender. By this time the GP had removed the offending article and was walking towards me at an alarmingly fast rate with it hanging from a spongeholder, (she was actualy heading for the bin at my side) but as my breakfast started to reappear I decided this would be an appropriate time to leave the room as vomiting in front of patients is not a very proffesional thing to do. The reason for my quesiness was not having worked in hospitals for a long time, I had become unfamiliar with offensive smelling body secretions (except BO that is). On entering the sactury of the treatment room I buried my head in the sink and started calling for Huey. It was at this point that a male GP entered and asked me a question. Now multitalented I may be but I have yet to perfect the art of vomiting and talking at the same time. The sight of his face however as the thourght of maternity pay flashed through his mind almost made the situation pleasurable. The moral of this story is thus...... There is a place for tampons
in this world but they also have a short 'in-body' life span. Ladies, do not forget to remove the last tampon. Secondly, if you do, please try not to be offended if the attending nurse retches, it is nothing personal, she may just have a weak tummy.

- 30/03/07 How naive. I found your review highly offensive. Many women do forget about tampons especially if under stress. Nurses should be prepared for foul odours. Throughly disappointing. |
