Advantages: Less mess and hassle

Disadvantages: can be dangerous.

A tampon is a cotton device that is inserted into the vagina to soak up any blood whilst a woman is having her period.

Tampax is the leading brand of tampons and there are different types of tampax tampons. These are...

Tampax Compax
-------------

Tampax compax are applicator tampons but one tube of the applicator is inside the other tube so it is smaller and therefore takes up less room in your bathroom, pocket, handbag. The applicator is made of smooth, shiny plastic making it easier and more comfortable to insert. They are so discrete and compact, hence the name, that they fit in the palm of your hand and are packaged in pastal colours without any words on the packaging. They come in regular, super and super plus sizes.

Tampax Applicator Tampons
-------------------------

These were the most widely used tampons but since compax were released they have become second best. They are exactly the same tampons but the difference is the applicator. These applicators are twice as long and are not made of plastic but cardboard, this can be a problem if they happen to get wet or damp as the cardborad then collapses rendering the tampon useless. They come in Mini, Regular, Super, Super Plus and also in a variety box which has Lites (mini), regulars and supers in one box.

Tampax Non-Applicator Tampons
-----------------------------

These are exactly the same as all the other makes of tampons except that they don't come with an applicator and there for have to be inserted manually, i.e. with your finger. They come in regular, super or super plus.

Tampons should be changed every four-eight hours and are extremely easy to extract. There is a string attached to one end of the tampon that is sewn into the tampon so that it can not become detached. To extract a tampon just gently pull on the tampon and voila. Also tampons expand inside you so that there should be no leakages providing they are c
hanged often and you are using the right size for your flow. They should also be changed often to help prevent the rare disease TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) which can cause death and is caused by toxins produced by the bacterium Staphylococcus Aureus which is commonly found in the nose and vagina. The symptoms are high fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash that looks like sunburn, dizziness, muscles aches and fainting. Always seek medical attention if have one or more of these symptoms and are using tampons. Tampax suggest to use a pad at least once a day during your period.

Price(from asda.co.uk)

Tampax Compax Super Plus 16s £1.96

Tampax Regular 30s £2.62
Tampax Super 30s £2.62

Tampax Mini 12s £1.12

Non-Applicator Regular 16s £1.59
Non-Applicator Super 16s £1.59
Non-Applicator Super Plus 16s £1.59

Personally I now prefer to use towels as they are just as discrete and there are less dangers about using them, i.e. TSS. Also I have just had a baby so I had to stop using them whilst I recovered from that. I doubt I will ever go back to using tampons regularly as I now prefer comfort to discretion.

I always used the Tampax Regular or Super and I had just started using the Compax when I became pregnant and would say that they are much more comfortable and easier to use. I never could get on with the non-applicator type.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for reading.
