Advantages: They work like any other tampon
Disadvantages: No compact range
Never thought I'd be doing a review on tampons! Last week I found myself out of Tampons and in the feminine hygeine aisle in Tescos. Now even though I try to get value/own brand on everything I buy I always seem to pick up Tampax without even thinking. Like they're the only brand there is!
Soooooo my eyes fell upon the little pink boxes on the lower shelves which proudly proclaimed Tesco Tampons and I decided to investigate. Tesco Regular Applicator Tampons cost 3.9p each (in a box of 30) and Tampax Regular Applicator Tampons cost 9.1p each (in a box of 40), doesn't sound like much but it all adds up! I decided to buy....
I purchased a box of Regular Applicator Tampons (30) which cost me £1.16, you can get non-applicator (32) for £1.20 which actually works out cheaper but I absolutely hate them so no. The box is pink/purple in colour with a yellow band at the bottom (the universal colour for regular apparantly) and a picture of a tulip assumably to make us feel a bit more feminine.
They claim to have 'effective protection' and 'gentle lengthways expansion.'
The tampons themselves come in a smooth cardboard applicator with a rounded tip for easy insertion and they are wrapped in a white and orange paper cover. They also come with a leaflet warning you about TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) and tell you to change them every 4-8 etc.
I think they are very competively priced and they are very efficient, no difference from Tampax. I guess there's not much else to say when it comes to talking about Tampons! The only thing that lets them down is that there is no 'Compact' range. When you use Compax for years like I have it is very odd to have these huge things in your bag but I guess since there is no plastic they are more environmentally friendly.
Summary: A guide to Tesco Tampons!

- 25/05/09 Tescos Applicator tampons do a good job at a low price, I know what you mean about Tampax Compak, but personally I prefer Lil-lets. Good review. |
