Advantages: cheaper, more hygenic, better for the environment!
Disadvantages: can take a bit of getting used too
I bought one of these after reading about them on a Lush board. Mine cost about £15 if i recall and I needed type B which is for women that have had a normal birth ie are dare I say it baggier! If you have not had children or had a c section then you would use type A.
Basically the beauty of the mooncup is that it is reusable (you just need to boil it once a month), ot can be kept in until it is full AND you can put it in at any point of your period and it will not have that horrible dry feeling that you can get with tampons. Yes it can take a bit of getting used. I would say give yourself 3 months to get used to it. Personally I have found that you do have to be a little careful when taking it out and putting it in as this is when leakage can happen as blood can drip down. The other thing I have found is that i'm pretty certain that women such as myself that have been stitched down there and are not quite how they used to be also have more tendency to leak. Don't get me wrong though this is still a fabulous creation. It is money saving, more hygienic and can be used before and for the whole of your period. The length of time you can wear it for depends really how heavy you are. On my heaviest days the longest fore me is 4hours but right at the end I can wear it a whole day which is great. I know some poeople wear them at night but for me I simply can't be bothered to change it so much so I just use a towel then. If you are very light though you may be able to get away with this! At first I had no idea how to get it out and was seriously starting to panic until I realised you just have to push down like you do in labour or like when you have a poo!!! Regarding getting it in i'm sure anyone who has had kids will not struggle, but it is pretty easy you just fold it once then fold again then up up and away!
It is worth trimming the stem of it as much as possible so as to avoid irritation. Yes at first there was a bit of a yuck factor but to be fair I have had 2 children so nothing much shocks me now in the body department! The other thing which dont let this shock you is when it comes out it can make some erm interesting noises to do with the suction. So if you embarrass easily it might not be best to do this in a public toilet first time round!
Summary: Something that is really worth trying!

- 14/05/09 Actually model A is for women over 30 or those who have had a vaginal birth. B is for those under 30 who have had a C-Section or no children. |

- 08/12/08 hehe it is weird but great! Personally i've never liked the idea of the jab with the way it affects fertility. |
