Rotastak Nibble Sticks
by dawnmarywhite I picked up a pack of these Rotastak nibble sticks last weekend with my shopping, for only 74p in Tesco. I rarely buy things like this, as I make my own treats to hang in cages and such, but I thought 'Why not?' since they were less than £1. They come in a red and yellow cardboard box, containing 3 treat bars. The bars inside ... are further wrapped in a plastic bag. The box is very cute, with cartoon rodents looking very eager to get their paws on one of these bars! They are marketed for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats. The box has a cut out section in the front, giving you a glimpse of the product inside. I think this is a good idea as disappointingly, there are no ingredients listed on the packaging at all. I really dislike this, as most responsible pet owners will probably want to know what they are feeding their pets. I do anyway. The only info given is that they contain "wholesome ingredients", "natural energy sources, essential carbohydrates and fibre". They do clearly state this is a complementary pet food and should be fed as a treat only. So, having seen the product through the cut out I was able to determine it was primarily seeds and bits of vegetable (carrot, sweetcorn, peas), all bound together with something sweet (no idea what though, and this is the main thing I am unhappy about). So I felt reasonably happy giving one to my rats and one to my hamster, but I did not give one to my dwarf hamster, as they are prone to diabetes so shouldn't be given sugary things. Since I don't know exactly what these bars contain, I am unable to make an informed decision. The bars themselves are approx 10cm x 3cmx 1.5cm and have a red plastic strip through them with a hook on the end allowing you to attach it to the cage bars. This hook is quite small though and I struggled to get it around the bars of my rat cage; the cage is very large and as such the bars are thicker. I did get there in the end though, and attaching to the hamster cage was much easier. They certainly went down a treat. Later on the same day I put it in the rat cage, I noticed they had almost finished it! Of course, they do hoard their food so they won't be getting another one for a while, as they will have been eating bits of it for a few days afterward. They were very interested when I put it in there too, climbing up and frantically trying to get their paws around it, testing it with their teeth then, I imagine, chewing bits off and rushing to their nest to hide them. Similar behaviour was seen with the hamster, although he is housed alone so it will last him a lot longer! To be honest, I am unsure I would freely recommend them, as the worry is that this sort of food will be fed far too often. I think without knowing full ingredients I would only use this as a very occasional treat, and stick to making things myself or using products that list ingredients. They were a very decent price though, and the 3 good sized bars should last ages if you have a single small furry to feed them to. Read the complete review |

Rotastak Nibble Sticks
by Ainat I have written other reviews on hamster products, and am always buying my little Syrian little treats here and there. I have a nice little collection of various treats in his hamster box (yes, I have a box with all his stuff in). These nibble sticks are one of the things in the box. I bought these carrot nibble sticks from ... Tesco, for about 75p for a packet of three. They come in a mostly red cardboard box, which has a 'window' cut out of it so you can see the bars inside. The bars are then also sealed in a plastic wrapper to keep them nice and fresh. The treats themselves look a little bit like a cereal bar. Lots of little yummy bits of goodness all 'stuck' together. 'Packed with wholesome ingredients, Rotastak treat bars contain natural energy sources, essential carbohydrates and fibre to keep your pet in peak condition and provide a tasty treat too!' These bars also have a little plastic hook built into them so you can attach it to the cage should you so wish - and I do do this as Kovo tends to like moving things around, and I didn't want him getting it stuck in one of the tubes that goes between levels in his cage. To get any of the individual pieces off of the bar Kovo really has to get his teeth stuck in - great for helping to keep them worn down. He doesn't seem to like the things I've put in his cage specifically for gnawing on so I have had to find other things to help wear his teeth down. these bars are one of the things I give him on occasion. As with any treats, you have to be careful about over feeding your pet. If I have put one of these in the cage Kovo doesn't get any extra treats that I give him otherwise, such as his little hamster chocolate buttons, etc. The packaging on all the treats I've ever bought has advised on what amounts would be appropriate. As this treat is a bar I can put it in his cage and it will last a little while, a few days or so. I have also noticed that sometimes he'll bite a load of the pieces off, and then go stash them, so I always keep an eye on what he actually has in his cage, not just what is still on the plastic hook! It can be hard to gauge how much he is eating - harder than if I am counting out a set number of smaller treats. And remember, it's nice to treat your pet, but ensure that you are giving them a balanced diet and they are getting all the good stuff that they need. I think Kovo would recommend these bars, so I will recommend them on his behalf. They contain stuff that is good for him, and give him something to gnaw on. The fact that he has to gnaw away and work to get what he wants also means that the bars are keeping him occupied. At only about 75p for a pack of three, these are also quite cheap to buy. Rotastak Nibble Sticks
by ShannonB As you already will know if you have read any previously read my reviews, i love to spoil my rabbit Peter. I am currently trying out all different types of treats for Peter as i have only had him for about four weeks. However these Carrot nibble sticks were the first treat i decided to buy for him. I bought the first packet ... of these from Asda and they was a great bargain of 73p. I also know that they sell them in Tesco for a similar price as i have purchased a few packets of these since i have had Peter as i have found he adores them. The Carrot Nibble sticks come in a a bright red and yellow cardboard box which contains 95g. It also has cartoon pictures of a Guinea Pig, Mouse and Rabbit on. Also the box has the Rotastak logo at the top and also the title of the product. There is a cut out area in the box so that you can then see through the plastic bag what the Nibble sticks actually look like! The Carrot nibble sticks are covered with a plastic bag, this keeps the treats nice and fresh for your pet! Also the box states that these treats are suitable for Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Gerbils, Mice and Rats. The back of the box also has a lot of information on telling you how to contact the manufacturer. Also it states what the Treat bars contain. What do the Carrot Nibble sticks contain? The back of the box states that these treats are 'Packed with wholesome ingredients, Rotastak treat bars contain natural energy sources, essential carbohydrates and fibre to help keep your pet in peak condition and provide a tasty treat too'. Could you possibly ask for much more for your pet? This is a tasty treat which at the same time is healthy! The treat bars have a red plastic hook coming from the inside of the treat. I found this was very useful as i was then able to hook the treat onto Peters cage for when he was inside it so it could hang whilst he ate it. The treat bars themselves are a oblong shape and are basically made up of different seeds and flakes of carrot, you could say they look like a human cereal bar! They look extremely healthy. 'They'll go to any length to get their paws on one!!' This statement is on the front of the box! I could not agree any more! Peter absolutely adores these treats, in fact right now whilst i am sat looking at the box whilst writing my review he keeps coming having a sniff around and begging for one. I can guarantee if i put one of these Nibble sticks in Peters cage that it will be the first thing he goes too and is all almost gone over night. They are certainly his favorite treat i have bought so far. Which is great as they are full of wholesome ingredients. I would certainly recommend these to anyone who has a pet rabbit. It is a great way of your pet getting its nutrients and keeping in peak condition especially if they are fussy with other treats or foods which may do the same. They are certainly worth a try for a bargain of 73p. Thank you for reading my review. Read the complete review |
