James Wellbeloved Ferret Complete
Advantages: A complete food
Disadvantages: a bit pricy
I have a pet ferret called Sugar. She is named aptly because she has a very sweet tooth! She is 4 years old and has pole cat markings. She is very loving and as a responsible pet owner, I want the very best for her.
If you go on to the James Wellbeloved website you can order free samples of their ferret food so you can see if your little fur baby likes it before you purchase a big bag. The food is available in 750g, 2kg, 7.5kg and 20kg. Obviously the more you buy, the cheaper it becomes. A 2KG bag will cost around £5.99.
The food comes in a heavy duty green bag. As soon as I buy it I transfer it into a cereal storage pourer to keep the food fresh. The actual food is made up of brown biscuits; that look quite boring, however I do not particularly think she cares what
colour it is!
Ferrets have higher energy needs and a shorter digestive tract than cats or dogs and being carnivores their primary protein source must be meat. They need a high energy diet with a high protein and fat content which Ferret Complete provides.
The main protein source in Ferret Complete is turkey meat; this has a higher protein level than other meats. It also contains turkey fat, this gives the ferret energy and helps achieve soft, shiny coats.
You can feed your ferret raw meat, however it is much healthier to feed Ferret Complete is much easier as it stays fresh in the bowl for longer.
Turkey meat meal, ground whole wheat, turkey fat, fish meal, turkey gravy, natural potato protein, sugar beet pulp, full fat linseed, vitamins & minerals, manno-oligo-saccharides, extract of yucca, preserved with antioxidants natural vitamin E and vitamin C.
For adult ferrets: Free feed them but restrict their diet to approximately 5% of body weight if animals get too heavy (e.g. approx 75g of food for 1500g ferret).
Supply plenty of clean fresh drinking water at all times. When switching from other foods allow 7 days for digestion to settle.
I've been using this food for a long time now and I have a very healthy, playful and energetic young ferret. She has never fallen ill or had any problems with her eyes or fur. She has always had a full thick coat and bright little eyes.
Leading a busy, hectic life style, the ease of having a dry complete food that I can top her food bowl up with morning and night is easier and I don't have to worry about her not getting the right vitamins and nutrients.
She loves the food and even the cat likes to steal it, so it must be good!
I'm really pleased with the food and for the price I pay, although it is quite expensive; it is reliable and does the job. If she is happy to eat it, then I will happily buy it.
Summary: A great complete food that the ferret seems to love!
