Pets At Home Hamster Muesli
Advantages: Includes banana flakes (my hammy's fave!), good balanced diet
Disadvantages: Only available at Pets At Home, expensive compared to local pet shop
I like to vary my Hamster's diet so every now and then I buy a different type of food for him. About once every three months I buy Hamster muesli from Pet's At Home.
The hamster muesli comes in a thick bag which is made from the same sort of material as the large bags of dog food (sort of a cross between thick paper and cardboard but not quite as stiff as cardboard). The bag is mainly silver in colour and has a picture of a hamster on the front with a purple background behind that hamster. The Pets At Home logo is on the front and underneath is written Hamster Muesli.
A 1kg bag costs £1.49 which is more than affordable but I have to admit that I tend to buy hamster food loose at my local pet store as it is much cheaper doing it this way. I buy this product to add variety to my hamster diet.
About Hamster Muesli
The Pets At Home hamster muesli contains all the essential vitamins and minerals that hamsters need for a healthy and balanced diet.
This muesli contains a balanced blend of cereals and vegetables as well as banana flakes, sunflower seeds, peanuts and various seeds.
This food will help to keep hamsters coat, tummy, teeth and cheeks in a healthy way.
What Does The Muesli Look Like?
The muesli is very bright and certainly looks quite appealing even to me. There are yellow and green biscuits mixed in with the food, as well as loads of sunflowers seeds (my hamster favourites!), lots of peanuts, a fair amount of dried banana flakes and a mixture of various seeds and two other types of dried biscuit (a light brown and large brown).
How Much Do I Feed My Hamster?
Adult hamsters will need between 7-12 grams daily. Hamster do tend to store their food so you will need to ensure you check to se how much food has been stored away to ensure you don't end up overfeeding. A bag of this size normally lasts me around 3 months and I tend to alternate between this food and another one from my local pet store.
I would certainly recommend this food, my hamster really seems to enjoy it, he always picks out the sunflower deeds, peanuts and banana flakes and has a good nibble on them first. He always seems to leave one part of the food which is some sort of seed which I guess he isn't keen on.
My hamster favourite way of eating it is to put the whole contents of his feeding bowl into his pouch and then empty it into his store when he then picks out his favourite bits.
I think the food is fairly well priced, especially considering that you are buying from a 'named' Pet shop. However, having said that, I think that compared to other pet shops in my area, this food is fairly expensive. I like to buy this food to add variety to my hamster diet and this is one of the only brands of food that seems to include the banana flakes which he loves so much.
