Advantages: offer lifelong cover
Disadvantages: their admin is a little slow
When I got my pug puppy I knew it was important to get him insured. I also knew that it was important to chose an insurer who offered proper lifelong cover as opposed to many of the other companies which only offer limited cover.
My AXA insurance cost approximately £190 for the year with an excess of £50. This included up to £7000 of treatment per year for the whole of your pet's life, complementary treatments up to £250, vet's fees abroad up to £1,000, behaviour therapy up to £250, clinical diets up to £200 and holiday cancellation cover up to £3,000. There are also many other benefits such as costs for cremation, third party liability costs. For full information you should go to the website and get a quote.
AXA is really worth looking at as I know many owners believe petplan to be the only "lifelong" insurer yet AXA is another option and frequently cheaper than Petplan. I also had a look at Petplan and similar cover was at a cost of £26 a month!!!
As for how easily they pay out...Well Ralphie the pug has just cost over £2000 in surgery and they paid out in full bar the £50 excess. We did have to pay the costs ourselves first then claim (although this is pretty normal) and then fill out the form and send it off with all the relvant information. I then received the cheque about 2 weeks afterwards.
I would definately recommend AXA, I would say the biggest negative is the fact that maybe they could speed up the claiming process a little but other than that I can't fault them. I have spoken to them on the phone a few times and they have always been very polite and helpful oh and they are english call centres not ones in India which I know annoys some people.
Summary: A pet insurers worth looking at
