Advantages: A great company to deal with.

Disadvantages: -

At the moment I do not have a pet of any sort but for a long time I had a cat, I got her when she was just a kitten and I adored her but like any animal including us humans, she got old and sadly passed away.

Keeping any animal can be costly and when they start to get old then it becomes a vey costly time with vet bills especially, that is why you should take out pet insurance and if I were you I would take it out with Direct Line.

When I took out my pet insurance with them I did so online and it could not have been easier, the website is very clear and simple to use and navigate. In order to avoid the dodgier people amongst us taking out a policy 24 hours or so before we know our animal is going to need an expensive trip to the vets, Direct Line have a 14 day waiting period after you take out your policy.

I took my policy out with a £50 excess which means that if the vet bill comes to £50 or less I pay it myself but if say for instance it was £150 then I would pay £50 and Direct Line would cover the other £100.

For this policy to cover 1 cat I paid £6.99 per month and this covered my cat up to £2500 in any 12 month period, Direct Line also cover having your pet looked after should you be taken into hospital or become too ill to look after it yourself.

This policy that I had also acted as a life insurance policy should the animal be involved in an accident and it also covered lots of other little bits and pieces too but as there are lots of different policies available you will need to check the small print of your particular policy to know exactly what you are and are not covered for.

When it comes to making claims it could not be any easier and as I had to make a few claims for vet bills towards the end of my cat's life I feel well equipped to comment on this.

I made several claims over two years which in total amounted to more than £700 but never did I have a problem obtaining one penny of my money from them, which at such a horrible time was exactly what I needed.

I have nothing but praise for the insurance service for pets offered by Direct Line and would be only too happy to recommend it to others, I am unsure of exactly what types of policies are available for different animals but as I say their website is very simple and straight forward so you will be able to check in a matter of minutes!

Summary: Highly, highly recommended!
