Disadvantages: midleading information, uphelpful staff
When purchasing anything you always are best purchasing insurance to cover yourselves and when I had my dog Sandy, I chose More Than Pet Insurance as they guaranteed to cover your pet whatever the circumstances.
Taking insurance out on Sandy initially cost £10 a month, which I was happy with because if anything happen like they said you are guarenteed to be helped.
I filled out a question for Sandy, he was just 12 months when I rescued him. The questionnaire was similar to one that yoiu would complete yourself for life insurance or critcal illness etc, and you complete these to the best of knowledge at the time.
When I first had Sandy I wasn't made aware that he had any problems until I took him to the vets and he was diagnosed with a Chronic Pancreatic Disorder. The vets as stated in previous reviews prescribed him with tablets and presciption food to help him, and as this was very expensive I contacted More Than to see if they would help me out.
To my disappointment More Than rejected any claim and said they could not possibly pay out any money because my dog was ill due to a dietary condition and the policies that they offer do not cover this.
Simple review, why tell people that they are guaranteed to coever whatever the circumstances and then when trying to make a claim they just simply rejected it. I had paid for his pet insurance for a number of months before I claimed and in the end cancelled my insurance with them. I now pay all my vetinary bills myself because I just find pet insurance to be a rip off.
Take this into consideration when taking pet insurance out, this may be good if you pet needs and operation but if they are continuously poorly they just don't want to know.

- 21/01/08 Tried to arrange life insurance with them the other day and their website was totally buggered. Laughingly, the site gave me a quote which I had to confirm acceptance of but everytime I hit 'confirm' nothing happened other than the quote dropped by 10p or so. I just kept hitting it until the quote had dropped by about £3 and then phoned them up. they gave me it at the lower price??!!!??! |

- 21/01/08 They really do push this, especially if you buy over the phone, as an all-encompassing pet insurance package. You have to read the reams of small print very carefully to find the catches. I wish they were forced to be more upfront.
I am surprised they didn't pay for the tablets, but not surprised that they didn't pay for the food, as few pet insurers do that these days (try Pet Plan as a good alternative who DO offer help with dietary stuff). |

- 21/01/08 Insurance terms and conditions always need careful reading. If the policy genuinely did state that they cover everything and had no exceptions I'd (a) be suprised but (b) advise that you speak with the insurance ombudsman if you think that they have incorrectly denied your claim. |
