Advantages: You think you are protected and covered giving piece of mind.

Disadvantages: You may get a shock when you claim

We have paid eight years of insurance for our two cocker spaniels without issue since they were 8 weeks old, we have never made a claim but our premiums have gone up each year, suddenly they have jumped to £55.xx a month which is £660+ per year also the excess has increased by 18.75% to £95

Recently we made our first claim for an ear infection in one of our dogs, it has required muliple visits to the vets, blood tests, an ear scrape etc, This has been the same illness covering a 4 week period but because it went over two policy years we have been charged two excess amounts hence we can only claim £29.

I wasnlt happy with the increase in the premiums recently but this is the final straw, today I cancelled the policy and direct debits, I now will transfer the money on a monthly standing order to a seperate bank account for self insurance, if I had done this 8 years ago there would be £3000 in the account already for vet fees.

Never will I choose animal insurance again, my own bupa insurance is cheaper and i'm 43.

Summary: Pet Plan, Never again
