Advantages: settled quickly, easy forms

Disadvantages: Had to pay vet first and settle with petplan later

Pet plan offered one of the best/cheapest covers that I could afford when I took out pet insurance for the three legged cat that I adopted from a local sanctuary. Within a month of her moving in she was attacked by a dog/fox and suffered from a broken tail close to the base.

She had to have her tail amputated at a cost of £1200 which included all medicines and after care. At the time we had to pay the cost directly to the vet and then reclaim which was difficult at the time because I was a student.

We relaimed the cost from petplan directly and found them to be quick in both providing the forms and also processing the payment even though she had not been insured with them for long. I think we had to pay an excess of around £50 a couple of years ago. Hopefully they have changed this system by now to pay the vet directly.

At the moment my dog is insured with M&S pet insurance which althought more expensive provides a better deal regaring the amount of vets fees covered.

Summary: Middle of the range pet insurance. Other providers have higher treatment limits.

How odd, I have had quotes from petplan several times for cats and it has always been just about double the nearest competitot. £20 per month as opposed to about £10.
