Advantages: nothing

Disadvantages: Will make any claim aload of hassel

My horse was diagnosed with headshaking in march 2008, In december i made the tough decision to have him put down, not only because of the vets advise, he was dangerous to ride and even more he was in permanent discomfort and pain We tried things such as herble medicines and headshaknig nets ect, however nothing worked. He was unridable throughout the whole year. Before he was put down we were paying £72 a month along with insurance for our other veteran horse who has been insured with petplan for 6 years, we also contacted petplan to let them no what was going on and would be claiming for loss of use, which at the time was apparently fine. However the problems started once he had been put down. At an emotional time we continued to send letters back and forth to the company prooving it was our horse, this included, letters from our vet, from our farrier, our livery yard manager, passport company and so on, eventually four long months later we have recieved our claim, nearly less than half what we paidfor him which was £3500. It clearly states on the claims form "Pays up to 60% or 100% of the sum insured in the event that an injury or illness permanently prevents the insured horse participating in any one of it's insured activities" My horse was unridable throughout the year let alone able to compete in the event stated for use of the horse in my five star vetting. However petplan have said they think he was alright to ride in the winter. Not only is this not true, what one day events and hunter trials go on in the winter!? Even after three/four letters from my vet (who also write for horse and hound and went out to beijing to work as the vet for the olympics) who stated all year loss of use, they will not pay out our claim.
Petplan have made an emotional time even more stressful and drawn out, they have mucked us around for four months and they have made us feel guilty for pushing for the amount of money we are entitled for. They have let down loyal customers who have paid hundres each year to insure a horse for nothing in return but hassel.
I would advise anyone not to ensure with this company, one that has expensive monthly rates, and will not pay out what is owed when a claim is put forward, i cannot explain my frustration and anger when dealing with this company!

Summary: After my horse was put down, Petpan the refused to pay out our claim.
