Peter Thomas Roth Anti Aging Cleansing Gel
by Jcapulet
This is a cleanser that requires rinsing with water. So, if you don't like using water on your face or find that cleansing with water dries your skin out a little then don't buy it because you won't like and there are many other cleansers out there that will suit your likes and skin concerns more effectively. Therefore don't be tempted ... by the anti-aging tag line because if you don't enjoy using it there's no point and you can effectively treat your skin in other ways with other products.
*Who is this for ? *
I have combination skin which is prone to break outs and this suits me just fine. I have to admit that I have creaking bathroom shelves from all my products so I'm not that faithful to any one brand or product 24/7 and prefer to use what my skin needs at that moment in time. However, if you're on a budget and you love your exfoliating products you could slot this into your usual skincare routine as a 2-in-1 cleanser/exfoliator. ( However see *How to use* for full details. )
Overall, the aim of this cleanser is to deep clean whilst encouraging cell renewal through the use of certain AHAs which are most effective for those who have issues with the signs of aging on their skin, especially effective for the likes of pigmentation issues which seems to respond well to AHAs. That said, those who have combi/oily skins will also love it for its pore clearing ingredients. However, I wouldn't recommend this on teenage skins though as it's quite powerful and I would recommend something more gentle in tackling teenage skin issues. Very dry/sensitive skins I would also take off the suitable list too as it may be too drying on your skin.
Also, because of the use of AHAs in this product, unless you're willing to use an SPF cream of at least 25-30 then don't use this. If you're removing dead skin cells and encouraging fresh skin cell production then you need to protect them or you will be making no head-way in your fight to tackle your aging skin issues. You should really be using a high SPF every day regardless but I don't want to nag !!
Also note that this product contains SLS ( i.e Sodium Laureth Sulfate ) so if you find that this ingredient irritates your skin then I'd avoid altogether.
*How to use*
As with any product that contain AHAs they should not be over used, so if you're on a budget, this would technically pass as a cleanser and an exfoliator in one and it also would last you quite a long time if you used on a 'as-needed' basis.
The official instructions recommend that normal/combination/oilier skin types can use as often as needed, whist drier skin types should use a couple of times a week for the first week and then build up to daily use. However, you will know what your skin can handle and I personally wouldn't use this everyday, especially if you are using other anti-aging products with similar ingredients and/or similar results.
Appl to damp hands and lather, then apply to a damp face. Do not use this around the eye area at all and becareful not to get this product in your eyes. Rinse immediately with water if you do.
As with any cleanser you should always tone, especially when water has made contact with your skin as the Ph balance needs to be corrected. Once you've toned then I would apply your normal skin care products in their usual way and order. But remember your SPF cream !! ( *said in a non-nagging way honest* )
*Why this works*
As noted above the AHAs, that help with the dead skin clearance and the cell renewal values of this product, are Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid and other AHAs such as Prunus Persica ( i.e Peach, )Citric Acid etc ( which also acts as a BHA since it can work through oily skin and also acts as an anti-oxidant. ) It also contains Citrus Bioflavanoids ( which acts as an anti-oxidant, ) Allantoin (which is thought to have healing, moisturising, soothing and anti-irritating properties, ) and Tilia Cordata (Linden) Flower Extract ( which is also an enti-oxidant that also helps to soothe and calm the skin. )
In short the ingredients for this product enable the cleanser to exfoliate by clearing away dead skin cells, encourage skin cell renewal, brighten the skin through the use of certain AHAs and protect and soothe the skin during the process. The use of all those AHAs won't agree with all skin types but it's effective on those that can handle the power of them in one product.

Peter Thomas Roth Ultra-Lite Anti-Aging Cellular Repair
by Jcapulet
There are a few different versions of this cream by Peter Thomas Roth. I use the ultra lite version as I have combination skin which is prone to break outs and I find the texture is perfect for my skin. That said, if you like what the basis of the cream is about from this review but you have a drier skintype, then I would recommend ... seeking an alternative version of the cream instead.
*Who is this for ? *
This is for a normal/combination/oily skin type that is concerned with the signs of aging. If you are younger and have issues such as blocked pores or skin tone concerns then I would use products to target your main problem first. However, this is more suitable for anyone 30+ who wants to fight the signs of aging, but also have some other skin issues connected with having combination/oilier skin and do not wish to excerbate those issues further by using heavier anti aging products.
Issues with your skin : Lines, wrinkles, slackening of the skin and uneven skin tone. ( If you also have pigmentation this is a suitable cream since it contains exfoliating and some brightening ingredients, but I would use an extra booster alongside this product purely targeting pigmentation issues. If pigmentation issues are your only concern then I would spend your money elsewhere. However, you will find that sun-damaged skin will tend to show other signs of sun-aging alongside pigmentation as time goes on. )
*How to use*
I'm a complete skincare junkie and simply slot this into my existing skin routine for a boost. It usually takes the place of my moisturiser, which may give you an idea to it's consistency but it is light enough to layer serums etc underneath too.
This could be used day and/or night but I would work this around your suncream needs if you wish to use in this in the daytime. You don't need much, I would say the size of your small-finger-nail and I would dot it around the face and neck before you blend for more even coverage.
*Why does this work ? *
I love Peter Thomas Roth products for their ingredients and I'll admit that not all the products I've tried and tested have worked for me, but I'm glad when a product with an ingredient list like this lives up to its potential.
The main ingredients are based around Peter Thomas Roth's Firm-CELL-4 technology. This blends four molecular peptides - Argireliner, SYNr-COLL, pentapeptide-3 and oligopeptide together to work on different layers of the epidermis and is in their opinion more effective than the likes of Retinol for repairing and firming. Now most people scoff when you point out that a product has a firming action on the skin. This is usually because some skincare products have an ingredient which gives you a temporary firming action on the skin and that only lasts as long as you wear it, with the effect being lost once you have removed it. Also, I would say that for skins that have quite severe slackening of the skin you would probably be better off making an appointment at a beauty salon for a course of treatments such as CACI which have impressive results on slackened skin.
However, this is perfect for those with 'minimal' to 'moderate' slackening of the skin. So, how are skincare companies able to do it ? Well, they go about it by targeting the skin's collagen resources which deplete as we age and its elastin fibres which keep our skin firm, therefore, companies add ingredients such as peptides to products that are thought to encourage collagen production and keep elastin fibres healthy. Peptides are used frequently in skincare now, but companies like Peter Thomas Roth and Gatineau for example are always working on developing new ingredients, building on what they already know and what is already available to use in the market place.
Apart from the peptide complex, the anti-aging cellular repair also contains ingredients such as Vitamin A ( for it's gentle exfoliation and moisturising properties, ) Vitamin C ( for its skin brightening and anti-oxidant properties, ) Glycolic Acid/arginine (for further exfoliation values. The act of exfoliation itself encourages cell renewal, ) Arnica and Aloe ( to heal and soothe the skin ) and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract ( i.e Green tea extract for it's powerful anti-oxidant values. )

Peter Thomas Roth Max All Day Moisture Defense Cream SPF 30
by Jcapulet
Everyone should have a decent SPF cream these days and as more and more companies are specialising in certain skin types and skin issues then there really is no excuse to go without if you know where to look.
This version of one of Peter Thomas Roth's many SPF products is for drier skin types ( if you have normal/combination ... you may want to read my review for the lite-oil free version. ) It's an all day product which is great for those people who only have the chance to apply their skincare once a day and it's been formulated to leave your skin feeling hydrated and conditioned without the need to use extra products ( please see *How to use* for effective usage.)
*Who is this for ? *
This is for the drier skin types. If you have combination or oily skin you probably won't like it and I would recommend a lighter, perhaps oil free version depending on your skin type, concerns and season. That said, on very cold days I have used this ( I have combination skin, prone to breakouts ) but it is too rich for my skin during the summer months or abroad in warmer climates. The official Peter Thomas Roth tag-line is that this is suitable for even oily skin types, however, I would personally save my money and purchase one of the many other versions that are more suitable for your skin. Plus I love to use my normal skincare products alongside my SPF cream but it is not suitable to do so with this product.
*How to use*
Now, where this product to differs to some is that it contains both chemical and physical sunscreen. Therefore, for the FULL protective benefits this should be used ALONE. And because it also contains a physical sunscreen then it needs to reflect the sun's rays without interference so please don't use any other liquid on top or you're diluting the effectiveness of the cream. As for makeup I would us either mineral based makeup or powder based makeup, as opposed to liquid foundation.
Please also note that thicker suncreams such as this, which tend to contain some physical sunscreens, can sometimes leave a white residue on the skin. Although people like to use less to avoid this you're not really gaining the full protection if you only use a minimal amount. Therefore, if you're a woman of colour for example with dry skin, then I would apply mineral based/powder based makeup over the top, however, if you prefer not to wear any makeup and/or you have oiler skin then I would perhaps try a purely chemical based suncream instead.
*Why this works*
As with many Peter Thomas Roth products this is a mult-tasking product and is not simply there to protect your skin from the sun. It contains Vitamin A ( which has gentle exfoliating and moisturising properties and is used often in anti-aging skin care ranges, ) Vitamin C ( which acts as a natural and effective anti-oxidant, ) Allantoin ( which is thought to have healing, moisturising, soothing and anti-irritating properties, ) and Panthenol ( a form of Vitamin B5 that not only adds moisture to the skin but also has calming and soothing properties.)
