Ferplast Mini Duna Hamster Cage
by Thricemummy
Advantages:
- A good size with 2 floors. lots of room for toys/toilet tubes/dwarf hamster to run around
- came (from pets at home) with free bedding, woodshavings and food.
- comes with free accessories.. house(2 piece for easy cleaning), wheel, bottle with bottle holder and a food dish.
- enclosed on all sides ... so no fear of dwarf hamster escaping/ no issues with woodshavings being kicked out. (less hoovering!)
-several base colours available...match your room! Also allows privacy for the dwarf hamster.
- bottle sticks to the outside of cage, saving room for toys on the inside
- hinged mesh on top for ventilation...hamster cannot escape, allows ventilation, toys/treats can be hanged from the top....we made a toilet tube swing that our dwarf hamster loves.
- Easy to clean...no awkward to reach places, tunnels etc
- doesn't take up much room in the house (but still a good size for the hamster. I've seen larger cages that have less room for the hamster :-S)
Disadvantages
-May be too small for a syrian...ok for dwarf hamster
_ our dwarf hamster used to pee in his house when the house was placed upstairs as instructed...I later found out that many hamsters do this when their houses are a)not open at the bottom and b) upstairs. We have bough a wooden open bottomed house for our hamster and placed it downstairs.
- food dish provided was too large...we bought a smaller one
-wheel was noisy, difficult for our dwarf hamster to run in and kept getting stuck. it also blocked alot of the downstairs space...have replaced with the silent spinner.
- bottle leaks.
- sometimes the hinges of the mesh get undone and its quite tricky to put back on again...but not a major issue.
Overall, id say this is a good cage to get if you're willing to upgrade the accessories. Once upgraded and filled with lots of toys: the perfect home for your dwarf hamster. Read the complete review |

Trixie Ceramic Dog Bowl
by daisylee3
I've got four dogs and up until quite recently we just used some cheap metal feeding bowls from Wilkinsons to put their food in. We have a wooden floor in our living room and laminated floor in our kitchen which are the areas in which we space the dog bowls out for each dog to eat their food, and obviously due to these smooth surfaces ... the bowls do slip around a lot resulting in a lot of noise and the bowls often get shoved under the sofa by accident by the dogs. The metal bowls also make a horrendous clanging noise when transferring the dog biscuits into the bowls meaning that even if we just got some mats to place the bowls on, it wouldn't solve the problem. When I was sixteen I was diagnosed with labrynthitis, which was absolutely awful and although I don't get the severe dizziness etc that I used to, certain noises make me feel slightly dizzy and set off a kind of buzzing in my ears which became more apparent in my last month of pregnancy and it has carried on since the birth of my daughter, although as it's not as bad as it used to be I can't complain too much!
It's usually just certian noises that set off the buzzing and dizziness, for example the sound of a door shutting, someone coughing, and of course my dog's metal bowls being dragged along the wooden floor. We decided to buy some ceramatic bowls around 5 months ago now for this reason - they're much heavier than metal bowls and so are more sturdy and don't slip around. They also don't clang when I transfer the dog biscuits into them which is a huge help in preventing any dizzy spells. Ceramic bowls are very widely available from supermarkets, pet retail stores and online retailers. I buy most of my pet items from online pet retail sites as the prices are much lower. I browsed online for a while and was suprised at how expensive the large ceramic bowls are and I eventually came across this bowl, which is from the brand 'Trixie', who sell a large range of pet products. These bowls are described as being premium ceramic bowls with a cute paw-print design. They are marketed food and water bowls that are suitable for dog and cats, although they would also be suitable for a rabbit or large rodent.
I ordered five of these bowls; four for my dogs food bowls and one to be their water bowl. I purchased them from 'zooplus', an online pet retailer and paid £5.99 per medium bowl. There are also a small and large version, the small retails at £3.99 while the large retails at £7.99. Ideally I wanted to buy large bowls, but the price timesed by five was a little too expensive for just some dog bowls so I opted for the medium and they are more than big enough to fit a large scoop of dog biscuits into and 1/4 a can of dog meat. There are two colour schemes to choose from; white with orange paws or brown with white paws. I felt that the brown version would fit in with my decor (lol, vein I know) so bought five of the brown and white. The brown is a lovely rich chocolatey shade with white paw prints going right around it. The inside of the bowl is beige which is handy as it makes it easier to see if any of the dogs have left any of their biscuits - the biscuits that I feed them are brown so if the inside of the bowl was brown it'd be a bit more awkward.
The bowls are durable and slip proof due to the weight of them, and are very sturdy. They don't slip around at all when my dogs are eating and don't clang when I put food into them. The weight also ensures that if you feed your dog in the garden, the bowl won't blow away. The bowl is smooth in texture as it is glazed with a high gloss so it is easy to clean, I usually just wipe them with some kitchen roll then put them back in the cupboard and they are also dishwasher safe which is handy for when the dogs don't eat their dinner and it all goes dry and sticks to the bowl - yuck! The bowl overall is really good quality, we've had them for about five months now and although there are a few minor chips round the edges and the inside is quite scratched they still look good quality and are a much better alternative to cheapo metal dog bowls.
