Classic Colourtone Rabbit Water Bottle
by WackoStepho
I have 3 guinea pigs and I have a large collection of water bottles that I have tried and tested over the years. I have the Classic water bottles in transparent and I also have a few of the colourtone ones in various colours. The reason I particularly like plastic bottles is that they can be dropped without smashing and they are also ... cheap to replace. The colourtone bottles only come in 3 colours as far as I know, these are blue, red and yellow. The ones I have are 320ml bottles and are available in most pet shops for under £2 each.
They come with a wire that you hook on to the hutch or cage and use to hold the bottle in place. They are easy to use, you simply unscrew the top and fill with water and there is a gauge up the side of the bottle that tells you the amount of mls, this is handy as it allows you to monitor how much your pet is drinking. Especially important if your pet is poorly.
I use a bottle brush to clean them with and when they get particularly worn out I just chuck them away and buy new as they are so cheap. When it comes to leaking I have found mine to be rather watertight, a few drips here and there but nothing major, no flooding of cages thankfully!
I would recommend these bottles, they come in a range of sizes and don't break the bank to buy. Personally I prefer the transparent ones as it's easier to see when they are getting a bit grimy but the coloured ones do look ever so bright and pretty.
Overall a good value product. Read the complete review |

Classic Crystal Deluxe Rabbit Water Bottle
by dawnmarywhite
I use one of these large bottles for my rats, as they get through drinking water like nobody's business. I wouldn't be surprised if they had figured out a way to use it to have water fights while I am fast asleep, as it needs refilled often! I started off with a smaller one, but when I was last in my local pet shop I decided to buy a ... larger one, and use it alongside the smaller one (placing each one at different areas in the cage).
The bottle is simply transparent plastic, with a red screw on cap. It has a measuring scale on it in millilitres, but to be honest I don't pay attention to this at all - since it is clear you can easily see at a glance when it needs refilled and drinking water isn't something you should put a daily limit on, like food. The cap has a nozzle with something like a ball bearing in the end; when your pet sucks on the nozzle, this moves allowing water to pass and letting your beastie get a drink. This also stops water spilling into the cage, as when it is not in use it has a locking effect.
An enclosed water bottle is the best way to keep the drinking water clean too, as it saves it from getting soiled by waste, food and things like bedding, which can lead to it being quite frankly unsafe! Cleaning the bottle isn't the easiest of tasks, unless like me you have a selection of pipe brushes and the like. I use these to give it a good clean every so often, but I don't need to do this too much. A rinse out in between refills does the trick, and I squeeze water through the nozzle as well, to rinse that out.
To attach it to the cage, you are provided with a length of white plastic coated wire with hooked ends. The aim is to place this around the bottle and hook the ends over the cage bars with the nozzle reaching through the bars - the wire stops the bottle falling backwards or to the left or right. I have used a few different sizes of these drinking bottle though, and found this to be a perfectly fine way to attach it. I like it also because when I need to refill the bottle, I can simply turn it to the side to free the nozzle from the bars and slide it out; this means I don't need to wrestle with the wire every time, as it can be a bit tricky holding the bottle in place and squeezing the hooked ends over the bars, all at the same time!
I paid just £2.99 for the 600ml size, which I think was a bargain since I paid not much less for a smaller (250ml I think) one from Pets At Home! If you have a caged pet, then this is something you must have, really. It's easy to use, and useful. I can't think of anything that would make it better (it's beautifully simple), or that makes it deserve any stars knocked off, so it's a hearty recommendation from me! Read the complete review |
