... my newly adopted charge. It was a chicken & rice flavour. Upon opening it I was quite shocked. It appeared extremely orange and I could see bloated stands of rice floating in this 'sauce'. There was little sign of any meat so I suspect the food is more cheap filler than anything of substance. It's things like that which cause intollerances in dogs so should be avoided if possible. The colouring was also obviously achieved by additives which, again, I llike to avoid. When it came down to the taste test, the d...more

Premium Review Asda Hero: For your Little one (488 words)

My little rescued mongrel bitch Tasha, is one fussy little madam, when she is one of her moods. For the most part she'll eat anything, but like any lady she has these little moods whereby no-one or nothing will do except that which SHE specifies. In Tasha's case this specification boils down to only two items, one of which is not suitable as a main meal the other of which is ASDA Hero. ASDA hero retails at around the 43p per 400g tub which has a nice picture of a dog on the front and the particular flavouring details and colour of packaging for each specific recipe. Tasha favours the Turkey and Rice version which when opened looks no different to other dog ...  Read the complete review

Since adopting our Siberian Husky, Casey, 3 years ago, he was very starved and underweight when we first brought him home, and so ate anything that we fed him as if he was just glad of a bowlful of food, but as time went on he was starting to go off his food more. We had him checked out, but nothing seemed to be wrong with him health wise, so just put it down to being a fussy eater. He did get used to getting a lot of leftovers from our meals and meat from a Sunday lunch though, obviously not a very good diet, but those eyes ..................... However, whilst browsing the pet aisle in Asda, I got my eye on Asda's own brand of dog food - Hero pate. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Asda Hero: Holding Out For A Hero (752 words)

My dog, Katy is a fussy eater. Her favourite foods are Winalot treats and anything we leave over from our meals. But obviously, that isn’t a very healthy diet and she does need something more. We have tried most brands and she tends to get bored of them after a while and will refuse to eat them. If we had more money, we could maybe try her on Eukanuba or something else that is on sale in the Vets, but we don’t and after all, there is no medical reason to. She is fairly old by now. We’re not completely sure of her age, as we got her from a rescue centre in 1998, but she’s probably around 8 or 9 years old. She’s a Jack ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bad from the start (372 words)

I love my dogs. I try and make sure they have the best things I can afford so they are in the absolute best condition they can be. Naturally, reading this makes you wonder why I would choose a wet food by 'Hero' - Asda's own brand. The honest answer is I wouldn't given the choice but I took in a rescue case that had been eating Asda Hero tins and it would almost certainly upset her tum to swap suddenly to my normal JWB. So I go to Asda and purchase the offending items. The tins are 32p each or £1.88 for a multipack of 6 asorted flavours. This is a very cheap price so is it not reasonable to expect that the quality of the ingredients is reflected in this? There ...  Read the complete review
