Advantages: Cheap and apparently tasty
Disadvantages: Tasha hasn't mentioned any
My little rescued mongrel bitch Tasha, is one fussy little madam, when she is one of her moods. For the most part she'll eat anything, but like any lady she has these little moods whereby no-one or nothing will do except that which SHE specifies. In Tasha's case this specification boils down to only two items, one of which is not suitable as a main meal the other of which is ASDA Hero.
ASDA hero retails at around the 43p per 400g tub which has a nice picture of a dog on the front and the particular flavouring details and colour of packaging for each specific recipe. Tasha favours the Turkey and Rice version which when opened looks no different to other dog food, but to me it does smell more suitable for human consumption if that's makes any sense. The contents are in a semi solid form, being that they are all kind of press moulded together in some jelly and set gravy. A quick mix with a fork and dinner is served.
It does take my fussy one a few seconds to sniff around and check out what is on offer, but she nearly always eats it all up straight away, there are times when she leaves it for a while but it is always eaten. It does look quite appetising not that I'd even consider for a minute eating any...........................MMMmmmm delicious, just joking, it has quite a bit of meaty chunks in it and for 43p seems to be good value. Having said this the more expensive brands can be even poorer value for money especially if they are not eaten and simply wasted, also according to the ingredients thee is only 4 - 8 percent meat and the other ingredient include meat derivatives which means all the crappy bits no one else requires for burgers and such. There are also cereals and added oils and proteins to ensure your loved one gets at least some of the goodness she needs to get through a whole day of sleeping. You can't force them to eat it can you. So the fact she eats it all up means there isn't any wastage on that score. She calmly walks away from the empty bowl licking her lips like she's just had a terrific steak dinner.
There are about five different varieties on offer but there are some where she kind of sniffs and leaves for a bit, and of course some she scoffs straight away so whether it is the contents of the food or simply that she isn't hungry is hard to discover, but I'm pretty sure it is the latter.
All in all I'm pleased with the purchase and what is more to the point I think Tasha is too, so my little miss will be content in future knowing she is getting a decent little nosh every day.
Summary: A decent meal for your dog
