Advantages: The packaging can be recycled and that is all...

Disadvantages: Everything except the can it can in..........

I have recently been on holiday for two weeks and my 14 year old kitty, was staying home alone. Well with the exception of my friend popping in 2-3 times a day to feed and check on her.

Usually my cat goes out to do her business, but she always asks to go out so with me going away I didn't want her to get caught short and leave me or my friend little presents to find when we returned.

As she was always littler trained for these instances, I decided to dig out the litter tray just in case she needed to go.

I started to feel guilty about my friend having to clean the litter tray, so I looked for something to help with the smell. So on a visit to tesco a week before our departure I found this Bob Martins spring fresh litter freshener, I decided to give it a try for my friend's sake.

PRODUCT

The night before we left I dug out the litter tray and added the litter which always smells fowl and chalky, so upon opening this I was pleased as it let out an aroma that was not as bad as the litter smell but very similar to toilet cleaner, but a much better smell than litter of even used litter.

This spring fresh litter freshener is made up or small brown grains that looked very similar to grated chocolate, only they don't smell as nice as chocolate and I certainly would not eat them.

I simply sprinkled these grains all over the cat litter to get the fresh smell and so called all day freshness, in which it is advertised on the canister. They lied this only smelt nice for and hour or so and the cat had not even used the tray.

This is designed to stop odours when the cat has used the tray and says it kills 99% of the bacteria that is given off when a cat uses the tray. I can not believe this as the cat had not used that tray and it still smelt bad, so god help my friend if the cat had used to tray for her ones and twos.

PACKAGING

I loved the look of the packaging canister it was ocean blue with a picture of the Felix cat on the front and a sweet smelling litter tray at the side of him, it looked really appealing to the eye but it is a shame about the product.

The comes is a 400g canister with a half flip top, to open and close the freshener. This flip top is extremely tricky to open and you are anything like me you will need a knife to prize it open.

This canister is a similar size to a can of baked beans only slightly slimmer and is made out of thick card board so it can be recycled, which is the only benefit this product can offer you.

PRICE

I paid 89p for this 400g litter freshener and I have to say that disappointed is an understatement, I basically paid for scented sand that did not do a thing it was designed to do.

MY OPINION

On first impressions I thought this was a great idea and the smell was not that nice but better than the used litter, it only took me an hour after use to realise that this stuff was useless.

I hate to think what bob martin would say about this as the cat didn't even use the tray, they couldn't even say the cat had used it to much or had an upset belly of something equally stupid.

The only thing going for this was the nice can it came in and that was only because it can be fully recycled.

Even if you had a truck load of this in the tray I am sure it would not make a blind bit of difference, so I can't say load enough that it is a waste of money you would be better chucking your money down the drain, but who am I to complain it only cost 89p after all.

Anyway after all the trouble I went to get this, the cat didn't even use the tray she waited for me friend to let her out to do the deed, so fortunately my friend was very lucky and didn't have to change the tray but she still got her 200 smokes and bottle of jack denials for helping me out.

Summary: Complete waste of money.

I don't like things like this, I don't think it's healthy for animals to have lots of chemical products around them and your kitty obviously agrees with me!

Thanks for the warning, with two cats it's nice to know what products to avoid on the 'business' front. Gary.
