Advantages: Good and strong - black
Disadvantages: Come out of package awkwardly
What is there to be said about poo bags? Quite a lot actually - mostly that I wish everyone used them or something equivalent to pick up after their dog has defecated on the grass or pavement. I am so sick of seeing dogs mess lying in the street or in the park when there are such simple methods to dispose of it and make it safe for kids to play, instead of tiptoeing through the piles of poo! OK - rant over.......
........Bob Martin is a leading brand in pet accessories and these bags are ideal for the job in hand. (Pun intended!)
They come in a plastic envelope which has a perforated square that simply needs ripping open to gain access to the bags. This is the one and only downside to these bags - the fact that they are folded the wrong way round in the envelope. When you open the flap you are not faced with an edge of bag that you can lift up and pull one free. Instead you get the smooth back side of the bag and have to dig in under the edges to find the top or bottom of the bag. This is frustrating as it means you invariably get at least three or four out of the bag instead of one, although they can be tucked back in.
The best thing about them in my opinion is that they are fairly thick plastic and also they are black. I used to use my daughter's nappy sacks to pick up my dog's poo, but they were a see through, kind of creamy colour and really didn't make this job any more pleasant. However with the Bob Martin ones it means you cannot see any of the contents once it has been tied up and this is just the way I like it!
They are very simple to use and the easiest way I have found is to put my hand inside a bag, pick up the poo and turn the bag round the other way, trapping the poo inside. Tie the handles together and dispose of it in a doggy bin. You could also use a pet scoop to pick it up and then put it in a bag but this is more fuss for me and I go the simple route. It depends how strong stomached you are when it comes to poo! They are like mini versions of the black bin bags we use for our rubbish and are extremely simple to slip into your coat or trouser pockets when taking your dog for a walk.
Bob Martin says this is a hygienic way to dispose of dog waste and I would agree as it does trap everything inside very securely. The plastic is thick enough not to tear and the bags are a good size to fit enough inside without having to use two bags per toilet trip. I have a Border Collie but even a large dog owner would find these bags adequate I think. They are also recyclable which is a bonus for an essential job in the world today.
There are 40 bags in each pack and I buy mine from Sainsbury's at the excellent price of 68p. This works out to be less that 2p per bag. I use roughly two a day, sometimes three, but I can get away with 2 packs per month. A sound investment to keep my garden and the streets dog poo free.
Please clean up after your dog! - there really is no excuse!
