      The Product

Cascade Bactericidal Disinfectant for Small Animals - well that is what it is called but it is actually not to be sprayed directly on animals...

How I Came Across The Product
      ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As many of you will know by now (due to my review and general nattering!) I have a beautiful lionhead rabbit called Snuffles. Well when i first brought the hutch i stumbelled across a spray bottle containing a pink coloured liquid on a shelf. To be honest I was first attracted because it was pink! so being a lover of all things pink i looked closer to see what it was and whether I could justify buying it! I saw that it was a bactericidal disinfectant for small animals hutches, cages etc. I was supprised at first as i have had many animals in the past and had been warned that household disinfectant was bad for small animals as it contained phenol, however upon reading the back i saw that the product label stated in large bold text 'NO HARMFUL PHENOLS'. After being impressed with the information on the label i brought the spray and was even more chuffed when i found out that it only cost me a mere £1.99 for a large 500ml bottle.

      What It Claims To Do.
      ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The product claims that it is specially formulated to destroy bacteria and other micro-organisms to help keep your pets and family healthy by preventing cross-infection.

      What To Use It For.
      ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The spray can be used to clean and disinfect many used by or for your pets. I will state what it can be used for but put my own experience of using it for that purpose next to it so that you get a more detailed opinion!

**** Cleaning hutches and cages ****
I use this spray everytime i clean out snuffles' hutch, once brusing out the hutch i spray the inside of the hutch and then wipe with some kitchen roll and leave it to dry. Once it is dried the hutch looks and smells beautifully clean and is then ready to have the fresh bedding put in.

      **** Cleaning litterboxes ****
As you may also know, i have been trying to litter train my bunny and inplace of litterboxes i have been using old washing up bowls - ok these are easy to wash in a sink but i prefer to know that i am really getting rid of all of the bacteria and using a cleaning fluid that is not going to harm my bunny. I have been using the cascade cleaning disinfectant for a while now in the litter boxes and it works a treat - it makes them look clean and smell fresh but does not put my bunny off using them! (thankfully!)

      **** Cleaning litterboxes ****
Most small animals will have a food bowl and a water bottle (or bowl) snuffles has a thick plastic mickey mouse food bowl (he likes throwing it around and putting things in it!!) by using a brush and the cleaning disinfectant it really gets it clean and i dont have to worry about him getting poorly after he has decided to use his food bowl for a toilet!! Also with the water bottle - i have always found them difficult to clean thouroughly in the past but with snuffles it has been easy - i spray in a little but of the disinfectant - swill it around and then rinse several times and it doesnt even smell or taste bad if it has been rinsed out properly! (i tested!)

      **** Carpets ****
I have only used it for this purpose once - after snuffles decided to be too lazy to use his litterbox and weed on my carpet!! The problem with rabbits is that once they have weed and scented on something they are likely to go back to that place again even after you think it has been cleaned! luckily the spray got the smell out and didnt stain the carpet!

      **** Cleaning toys ****
Snuffles has a range of toys - most of them are made of brightly coloured plastic and make some variation of a rattling sound when played with! I have also found the disinfectant spray very handy when cleaning these as you know you are getting rid of the bacteria safely!

      **** Other purposes ****
Im sure that there are many other uses for this spray and they will vary depending on the type of small animal but the cleaning disinfectant can be used for pretty much anything with the exception of application directly to your pet. Some other examples listed on the bottle are worksurfaces, utensils, bedding and floors.

      The Added Bonuses
      ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Not only is it perfectly safe for your pet but the cleaning disinfectant does not stain or corrode and it is also biodegradable. (sorry im beginning to sound as enthusiastic as an advert but hopefully it gives you an idea of how chuffed with this product i actually am!!)

      MY OVERALL OPINION
      ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Now, as you have probably gathered by now - i cannot fault this product. It does what it is supposed to do, it makes cleaning out pets a lot easier and also is brilliant value. I brought my bottle quite a while ago and have used it every time i clean out snuffles but it still has plenty left. The bottle itself is easy to use and has a plastic flap which shuts off the spray part of the bottle to stop accidental spraying during storage. My bottle looks slightly different to the ones shown in the picture above but basically it is a simple clear spray bottle with a white top (which twists off) and the liquid is a pretty light pink colour. The front sticker is yellow with a picture of a rabbit and what looks like a ....badly drawn gerbil maybe! All in all this is a really useful product for anyone with pets and is fantastically priced! I wish i had discovered it earlier as i used to own many caged animals such as gerbils, rats and hamsters and this would have been ideal for cleaning out the cages!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Worth a go for your pet's cage

We have used a number of disinfectants to clean out our rabbit's cage over the years. We never stick to one brand. We just pick up whatever is cheapest in whatever pet shop or supermarket we happen to be in when we think we might need some more.

We have used Cascade Bactericidal Disinfectant for Small Animals on a number of occasions and always found it to do its job excellently. They do a specific one for small animals which means you know that there aren't any chemicals that will harm your small pet.

The smell is not too overpowering, which is good because I worry about chemical smells upsetting my little bunny. How would you like your bedding to be drenched in disinfectant?! but it smells enough to get rid of any unpleasant animal odours from the cage.

We only use disinfectant on his toilet area and around the edges of his cage. He has a carpet to sleep on (yes he is spoilt) and I figure it might have some germs on it but it must smell homely to him so we only ever hoover it and then replace it if it gets grubby.

A good disinfectant for cleaning small animal cages. Price varies depending on shop but it is inline with other pet disinfectants.

        Worth a go!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Fab for pets!

What a great product this is!! Specialy developed with your pet in mind. I keep and breed rabbits and with 5 hutches thats a lot of bugs and cleaning to do!

        WHAT IT IS AND DOES

The spray is a formula that has been developed so that you can use it on your pets things without having to worry about them being harmed by chemicals. It will clean and disinfect and leave behind a nice fresh clean smell.

        WHAT TO CLEAN?

It will clean just about everything exept your pet!! I used mine on my hutches, bowls, water bottles and plastic rabbit toys. Also great for hamster or rat cages.

        HOW TO USE

First i will take all the bedding out the hutch, the with a wet cloth i wipe the whole hutch including the wire fronts and up the sides of the hutch. I removed the litter trays and wipe them clean with water. The i spray the whole hutch with Cascade and give it a good scrub. Once everything has been cleaned i wait until it is all dry before i put any bedding back in. With the water bottles i spray i scoosh into the bottle and then add a small drop of water. Then shake the bottle before rinsing it out PROPERLY, i will repeat the rinsing several times until i am 100% satisfied there is no Cascade left inside the bottle. It should not be ingested in any way.

        GOOD POINTS

I love the fact that i can trust the cleaning products i use for my rabbits, its comforting to know that none of them will be poisened by chemicals or upset by fumes that other products may leave behind. There is no end to what you can use it for if you have more pets as it comes in differet kinds, i have also used one for my dogs. I cleaned water bowls, even accidents on the carpet and have never been disapointed by it.

        STATS

Very cheap only £1.99 from Tesco

The bottle last me about a month, but in saying that i use it a LOT, i clean my 5 hutches with it once a week and litter trays everyday as well as bowls and bottles which are also once a week so for the average family that perhaps only have one rabbit then it would go a lot further.

As with most cleaning products they should always be kept away from small children and naughty puppies who want to chew!
