Advantages: none for my two but some cats and dogs might like it

Disadvantages: tugs and hurts, rubber smells

I had one of these and had to abandon it in favour of a standard brush for my two cats. My lads actually like being groomed and we have an assortment of various brushes to do this and vary the brush for the area, what mood they're in and how much hair we want to take off. I bought one of these for about £5.00 thinking they'd love it. How silly I am!

Firstly one of my boys doesn't like alot of smells and rubber seems to be something he objects to. Alot of rubber items will lose their smell over time but my lad will avoid these items forever if he once gets even the faintest whiff of rubber. I left this on the floor for a few days to encourage my two to have a look, a sniff and perhaps a cheek of the item but they both studiously ignored it and took a wide berth around it.

So I decided to have a quick go with it anyway, sometimes they like things once they realise what they are. My first boy who usually rolls and purrs when brushed struggled to get away from this and cringed away each time I tried to use it. I couldn't persuade him this was a good idea so let him be.

My second lad who likes being groomed but less so than his brother also cringed away from this so I decided to try it on myself! Only way to tell what's really happening so I tried it on my hair.

It pulls like crazy! The rubber seems to stick to the hair and really tug at it so no wonder mine didn't like it! I have long hair so I tried it on my brother's short hair and he immediately declared "ow, get off it's pulling!" so no good for grooming brothers either..!

I realise our hair is a different texture to their fur but I stopped using mine after I'd felt the tugging, if it tugged on my hair I wasn't going to use it on their more densely packed coats. Mine are shorthairs so I thought it would be fine. We went back to the usual brushes after this.

Summary: Not a success in our household

I found this fantastic on my cat, and on my Rottweiler too! Great review
