Advantages: Effortless grooming, Less chance of hairballs, Less fur on the couch
Disadvantages: The one I got wasn't purple, is there even a choice of colour?
I’d been forgetting to buy a proper grooming brush or comb for the cats for a wee while now, even as Peri would remind me with another of her furballs every now and then! Y’see, I’d been using an ordinary nylon comb on the girls and with them both being medium longhairs, the comb was doing quite a good job of cleaning their coats; I wasn’t in any rush to replace it. The only thing I could say about it was that it built up a fair amount of static which, when it discharged on Foggy’s ear, would send her belting away in shock. I was thinking that even a metal comb would be better but was, in a sense, discouraged from buying one because I’d heard of this ‘Zoom Groom’ that was supposed to be really good. I’d forgotten about it all again until I was standing across the road from a pet shop in Anwick (went to Berwick-upon-Tweed for a hodilay) and made a rare, impulsive decision to see what they had. I couldn’t see anything that resembled a cat brush or comb and when I asked if they had anything to do the job, they pointed out the item directly in front of me that EXACTLY resembled a cat brush. The Zoom Groom is a brush in the shape of a cat! So I’d found it and based on the recommendation I’d been given, I bought it. Back at the caravan, I took it out the poke and had a look at it. A strange looking beast with about a dozen thick, cone shaped ‘fingers’ protruding from it’s base; it’s skin felt sticky to the touch... When I got home and got the cats back from their Uncle Jimblob’s, I had the opportunity to try it for the first time. The ZG is moulded from, what seems like silicon rubber, all in one piece with quite a thick grip. It’s very comfartable to hold and it seems less of an effort to groom the girls now. Foggy always liked getting combed anyway as she seemed to appreciate it but I’m convinced she’s enjoying the Z
G more. The fingers are more flexible and so bend rather than stick if you inadvertantly brush her collar. Even Peri, who really didn’t like getting combed, seems more tolerant of this new utensil. As for lifting loose hair, I’m well impressed. I thought I kept the girls coats quite good until I tried the ZG. Peri has that very fine hair that gets right up you nose and the tool does a great job of drawing it out where the comb fails but with Foggy who has a thicker hair and gets more grooming anyway (per her tolerance) I found the Zoom Groom made an incredible difference! I really didn’t think you could get so much hair from a cat and still leave the beast with some dignity. I’ve nearly filled a (albeit small) wastepaper basket with fur! All-in-all, it does exactly what it says on the, em, bit of card it comes on and although I haven’t compared prices, it seems a reasonable outlay to help avoid those distressing (for the cat) hairball episodes.
