Advantages: Poppy Loves It
Disadvantages: Not much real meat!!
My week of looking after my parents dog Poppy is drawing to a close. I absolutely love her, she is such a loving dog and very loyal. Because I am going to be staying back at home and not see her every night after work I've decided to spoil her for the last 2 days of looking after her.
Just to quickly explain - Poppy is a very fussy dog. She doesn't eat dog food much and will go for a couple of days without touching anything. I don't know what causes her to do this but no matter how much you try to get her to eat, she refuses.
Mum and Dad have tried everything to get her to eat. They have tried every dog food they can but with no luck at all.
Cesar is a product aimed at small dogs. Poppy is not a small dog and is about the size of a Labrador. This product has never been tried with Poppy, but at the start of the week with Poppy refusing to eat her dried food and her Pedigree pouches, I decided to take a visit to the local Co-Op to see if there was anything else I could try out.
I'm not sure if she has ever been given dog food in gravy before as she is usually given dog food in jelly. I noticed Cesar in gravy, this product was Lamb strips and garden vegetables. It does state on the front of the tin that this product is new so it was worth trying it.
For a small tin which weighs 150g it was priced at 68p. I did think this was slightly expensive but if she ate it then it would be worth every penny and more.
The tin is gold with a foil lid. Cesar is printed at the top of the lid in the original Cesar logo. There is also a picture of a white west highland terrier. This is also printed on every Cesar product. The background is purple and for every different flavour the background is a different colour.
I just bought the one tin, even though she's not a small dog I didn't to buy too much in case she didn't eat it and it was all wasted.
Once home I decided to try it out straight away as there is no time like the present. Pulling back the lid I got a strong smell of roast dinner. The gravy just smelt like the gravy you make for yourself. The lamb strips looked very meaty and quite tempting. There wasn't much vegetables in the tin but I was actually relieved about this as I thought this might be the only reason she wouldn't eat it.
Tipping the contents into a plastic bowl for her I didn't have to mash or break it up like a lot of other products. It was meat strips not stuck together by any dodgy ingredients but saying this it does state on the back that there is min of 4% lamb so the strips aren't that real which is disappointing.
Placing on the floor I watched as Poppy approached the bowl. She sniffed it for a minute then raised her head as if she was going to walk away. But instead she lowered her head and started eating the food. Before I knew it the whole bowl was finished. What a fantastic result. And for some strange reason I was over-joyed by this!
That's not it finished though after the bowl was empty she picked up the bowl and ran into the hall with it. I don't know why this was and the only reason I can think if is so it didn't keep sliding whilst she licked it clean. The food went down better than I could ever imagine!
So the final 2 days have come and for the next two days she is going to be treated like royalty and get this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And no-one deserves I more than Poppy does. We have finally found the perfect meal for a next to perfect dog.
Feeding Instructions -
If your dog weighs 5kg then you should feed them 3 packs daily
If your dog weighs 10kg then you should feed them 5 packs daily
This can be quite expensive if you choose to feed them this everyday!
Overall this product has worked well for Poppy and I'm relieved that there is a food out there that she will eat regularly. There are many more Cesar products, to see these visit;
